Hi guys, I plan to buy a bug & pass it to my brother whose living in strathfield, Sydney (he's new in Australia & I'm not based there). Can someone explain to us what is RWC, Rego & the guidelines to buying a bug in Australia & the cost involved (registration, inspection etc). If the bug that we plan to get has a new engine (original motor died), what needs to be done? Thx

Regards.

if the car is currently registered then no hassle, walk into the RTA with proof of purchase, $27 transfer fee + stamp duty ($2 for every $100 of the purchase price I think). If its not you'll need a blue slip (unregistered vehicle safety inspection) not sure what they cost. Maybe $100. You'll need a RWC more commonly known as pink slip ($38?) green slip http://www.greenslips.com.au/  from $300ish depending on age, driving history.

if unreg it only needs the blue slip around $60 ,green slip $680+ due to being unreg car then about $300 at the rta for rego and new plates etc if regoed its as Chris says but its $3 per $100 purchase price :tu:
