Has anyone ever attempted this conversion?

I believe its a Kombi box... you will have to do a lot of cutting around the torsion bar area. Its a BIT longer than a stock type 1 box

I have had a bus box in my drag car since late '93.
With the Berg intermediate housing there was very little clearancing required...like one minute.
With the 091 intermediate housing there may be more, but in 002 trim, the bus tranny fits nice.

how much more work would be required to fit a 915 box (4 speed) instead of a kombi box?

Lots more because of its length.
Stevey is doing a conversion now, and will post some photos I am sure.

Actually, Steves is a 5 speed, but if you want the bellhousing face in the standard location, you will have to lose the tortion bar anchors.
I am doing a 930 4 speed conversion on my chassis car, but it has coil over suspension.
I was thinking of using a type three rear suspension at first ,so I turned down a torion anchorto give me more room.It is stll one inch rear of where a VW tranny would be.
