Ian Bugden - October 15th, 2007 at 05:10 PM

Is the engine still for sale?? Looking at the other post itis sold.

If not how many km's are on it?

Craig Torrens - October 15th, 2007 at 09:29 PM

Ian, re engine: That is a link to my post when I sold it to Marc...................not many K's, and it drives well.

Dasdubber - October 15th, 2007 at 09:33 PM

Sorry to hear you gotta sell the vw bits Marc (I know the feeling though!!).

Just to clarify with the rollcage - I think the main hoop has a bend at the top of the roof line right? That is exactly the same as the one I had made (as you indicate) first time around, but I then had a new hoop made that was flat across the top because the one with the bend didn't clear the ragtop handle. Just thought it would be worth mentioning in case anyone wanted it and has a ragtop.

Good luck with the sale and the purchase of the land.
Alan

cram - October 16th, 2007 at 08:03 AM

Unfortunately, other commitments means that this has been getting pushed further down the list everytime and am unlikely to ever get it done.

Thanks Craig & Alan for clarrifying. I didn't realise that you changed the hoop - fits perfectly in to solid roofed bug! I have dummied it up. It looks great and would greatly reduce body/chasis flex.

The engine is the one I bought off Craig. It is for sale. Would make a great street motor for any air-cooled vw. It had 84 kw with 40 dells and semi-merged exhaust (from memory). With an 82 stroke and W110 it would have a tonne of torque all at low revs so should last for a long time. Follow Craig's thread back for info - Craig's thread links to brendans(?) as well for more info! i'm selling it for what I bought it for. Any questions, just ask!

I will get to other pms tonight.
pics and more to come....

54 body
wrecking 55 oval - ON HOLD
oval front/rear apron
manualised BJ IRS chasis with T3 drums.
bits of trim...mirrors, everything

its all got to go!

Dasdubber - October 16th, 2007 at 03:32 PM

G'day Marc, if available I'd be interested in the front and rear aprons off the 55 if they are okay? Thanks mate
Alan

cram - October 16th, 2007 at 05:09 PM

midlife - didn't get the pm.
alan - no worries. they are not perfect but I'll get some pics.

I'll organise some pics soon. Pls be patient as Michelle's grandfather has just gone into intensive care after a heart attack, I'm changing jobs next week and am busy as at work, and trying to finish my corrections for my PHD which was accepted but just needs final edits...

Don't want to scare off potential buyers, but pls no tyre kickers - I don't really have the patience or time atm! I hope you understand. Thanks

Turbo54 - October 16th, 2007 at 05:32 PM

555bug - October 18th, 2007 at 12:07 PM

picture of cage?

cheers Stephen

cram - October 18th, 2007 at 12:57 PM

Stephen, I took some pics yesterday afternoon and will endevour get a pic up tonight - alternatively, pm me your e-mail address and I can e-mail you the pic.

The roll bar comes with all mounting bolts/hardware and has enough mounts for normal retractable seatbelts, racing harness or baby seat...

If you search for a pic here or have a look in the vw mag, its essentially the same as the one in Dasdubber's old ragtop except that his hoop was changed (lowered I'm guessing?) to clear the sliding sunroof. And its grey..

Also, michelle's pop is out of intensive care and is slowly recovering so things have settled down a bit. :tu:

cram - October 18th, 2007 at 06:33 PM

The 2110 has:

AS41 case bored for 90.5mm Mahle barrels and “B” pistons. (case is AD prefix)
10mm case savers installed.
CB Performance 82mm Counterweight Crankshaft.
CB Performance 5.4 inch “H” beam rods.
Lightened Flywheel (13lbs)
Kennedy Stage 1 Clutch and Pressure plate.
All parts professionally balanced.
CB Performance 044 (40x35.5) heads ported and valves unshrouded.
Engle 110 cam.
Chromoly pushrods with 1.1 rockers on Empi solid shafts and Bugpak Swivel Feet.
Compression is set at a healthy 9.0:1.
Oiling is handled by a full flow pump and extended sump
Ignition is Bosch 009.
Engine breather to alloy tappet covers, oil filler and fuel pump block off.

Just add fan shroud, carbs and exhaust!

From Brendan's original post:

The engine made 83.5 RWH at 4500rpm with only 500 miles
It was running very rich at the time (new engine and it was not taken past 5k). Since then I have changed from 32 to 36mm venturis, rejetted and added a fully merged exhaust. Have not Dynoed it since but I guess it now makes somewhere in the mid nineties. Would probably make that HP below 5000rpm still. Ratio 1.25 rockers would be an excellent addition to this engine.

This would be a great engine for a street bug or early kombi

A bit of history:
Brendan sold the engine with 2500 miles. Sold to demon on the sunshine coast to replace the 1916 in Dasdubbers old ragtop. Craig bought the ragtop which he picked up from a storage shed. I bought the engine from Craig as he had a 1916 for it. Demon, Craig and Dasdubber have driven the ragtop with this engine in it and may be able to comment on it (if they are asked and comfortable with it). I don't know the kms on it, but likely to be between 5,000 and (definitely not above) 10,000 km. everything is still shiny as!

Its a mildly cammed engine, with big stroke, so has oodles of hp and torque below 5500 RPM. Low RPM cam means less stress on the case. This is not a high RPM screemer by any means. Ideal engine fuel injection but carbs work a treat too. Perfect for a streeter bug or T2.

If you are interested, lets talk.

cram - October 18th, 2007 at 06:36 PM

as41 case
dual relief
case savers installed (8mm studs)

best offer before ebay?

cram - October 18th, 2007 at 06:41 PM

pair seat rail suit early chassis (only 1 shown)
These have been modified for aftermarket seats by C.O.R. The seats bolt to a flat bar which bolts to the modified rail.
Everything powder coated grey hammertone. Side cover included! *****SOLD***

Dasdubber - October 18th, 2007 at 08:07 PM

Thanks for posting the pics Marc - I might have to pass on the option of the clips to h (as he expressed interest above)....I was after a rear with no exhaust cutouts. And the front was mainly for the lower spare tyre recess (bottom area rather than the front itself). Cheers again though - good luck with the rest of the sales.
Alan

Dasdubber - October 18th, 2007 at 08:09 PM

By the way here is the link to pics of my old cage - Marc's is identical to mine pictured (but not the last three pics with the straight horizontal loop).

Thanks for the link Alan.

555bug - October 18th, 2007 at 11:52 PM

Marc, assuming the seat bases fit a 69 pan i'll take them. I'll think about the cage and get back to you.

Stephen

There's a fair bit of interest in things. And no, I'm not getting rich selling this stuff off.

Also have:
Have professionally made custom interior (door and rear cards, rear seat) for early bug still to come.
