Hey guys, wanting to lower my bus and am probably keeping it with the reduction hubs for now, but wondering how much can you safely lower them before
you have oil issues in the hubs??

You should look at George's drop plates, they will bring you down without trying to make your oil go uphill:-

They look pretty cool, its a shame they go from 1.5 drop and the next step down is 4.5.
Or does this coinside with drop spindles or something?
Any chance you could show me some drop spindles to suit aswell???

Reduction hubs have been around for 60 years or so now. They’ve been laid back for Bajas, turned upside down for low riders, raised, lowered used
to drive saw benches and post hole diggers, just about anything you can think of. They were used in IRS configuration in some countries. I’ve
never hear of one failing, ever. (Perhaps others have?)
They have their own oil reservoirs with fill and drain plugs, they aren’t supplied from the gearbox. They’re mostly left for years while the
level drained out down to wheel seal, but still on they go. Most people never changed the oil.
With small gearbox like that, as with most diffs and final drives, any oil in contact with the lowest gear will splash up and feed the gears &
bearings.
There is no seal between the box and the reduction hub, and some oil will go out there, and back, under certain circumstances. If you wanted to seal
the box you could put a new bearing in the axle shaft inner position, with one seal left in on the gearbox side of it. It’s only a common 6306
which comes with 2 seals in 2RS configuration. I wouldn’t bother though.
Lower the buss all you like, make sure the reduction hub has oil, check it at normal service, it’ll go forever.
Not many still with the reduction hubs though, everybody wants LOW and fast. One day we’ll be searching for authentic original vintage buses, but
not yet.

Thankyou Tony, as im new to the old girl i havent come across them before and it was just something i had read.
I was just hoping to go drop spindles on the front and adjust the spring plates in the rear.
I know there is always a better propper way and who knows in the future i may do a swap but for now it was what i was looking at.
A better look and more importantly will fit in my garage.
