Anyone with Type 3 popouts - all models, tech Qs
GTMac - April 15th, 2008 at 11:04 PM

Have stripped the car and have seen that all cars with out popouts from factory still have the bolt and screw holes..........makes my life easier. Was wondering with someone who has them fitted currently, are the 2 countersunk screws that attach the hinge to the body, are they self tapping into the body or does a plastic sleeve go into the body hole and then a self tapper into this? Thanks, Andrew

These are only "position" holes in the B and C pillars. The B pillar only has the slots and must have the hinges from a donar car welded/brazed in. The latch position on the Notch has the 3 holes but no nuts in place. A plate with the nuts must be added. The Square has self tappers in the C pillar for the latch attachment so the hole positions may or may not be marked which makes that one a bit easier.

There have been past posts on here showing how to go about fitting the popouts to Australian built Notches, none of which were fitted with the popouts but all the slots/holes are there as you have found. As you have mentioned 2 c'sink screws holding the hinge (do you mean latch??), I presume that you have a Square.

Dallas, no Im talking about a Fastback. They dont have the pillar section hinges, the glass just bends out from the rubber frame and the rubber frame is held in with 4 small bolt/nuts. The actual popout hinge (latch) that has the two locating holes above the parcel tray is what Im talking about. Is that held in because it self taps to the body or is there a plastic plug that goes in first and then a screw?

Thanks.

Wasn't sure on the model you have. Actually your heading reads "all models" which could confuse some of us! The Fastback is the only odd one out in the range. If there are just holes where the latch screws go (I haven't had much to do with the F/B) I would think they did the same as the Notch, that is, there was a plate with the nuts there for metal thread screws which in the case of the notch, M4 screws. Has your one got plain holes around 7mm dia? If so, you could make a plate with the nutserts as per notch but with only 2 in it.

Have plenty of them here if you want some. Let me know.

PS. There is a Fastback with bendy windows in Pick and Payless Blacktown. The rubbers look useable.
