Type 3 Gearbox v Beetle Gearbox ratios

Hi,

what are the speeds each gear does in a type 3 when you compare to a beetle?

i heard first and second are the same as beetle but third and fourth are longer?

In terms of year I am talking 1964 type 3 vs 1964 beetle.

cheers,
Costa...

1st, 2nd and 4th are the same ratios in both, only 3rd is taller in a type 3 but it;s the final drive that's different and would change the whole overall gearing.

Bugs being 1200 in 63-64 had 4.375 where as the type 3 were geared taller for the 1500 with a 4.125 final drive.

you would need to play around with a gear ratio calculator, tyre sizes change things and needs to be taken into consideration.
