72 Super Wiring, Help, its got me? SORTED NOW
trying to sort out what are the wires that go into the headlamp relay. and what are the ones to the indicator relay. i have a blue wire tied in with a
black green too, not sure where that goes either, just guessing as the wiring diagrams i have come across are not correct for mine at all from all the
books and internet sites.
Could someone please help me out.
The Aussie wiring is just......well shite.
Cheers

Yes, wiring diagrams are advisory at best.
I have found that the best way forward is to draw your own wiring diagrams as you go. AND KEEP THEM!)
Use the book as a guide and learn the principals of operation.
Then work it out as you go.
I have checked my '73 kg (which should be close) and the only blue wire is hooked to the 12 terminal of the indicators along with a Blue/Red wire.
The blue connects to a Black/Green/white wire to the column switch.
The blue/red wire connects to the Speedo for the flasher indicator switch.
This is, however, a 3 pin flasher can (with 15 White going to the hazard switch and 11 brown to earth)
You may have a 2 pin can. Can't help you there.
Headlight relay is
24 - yellow - fusebox low beam
25 - Brown/White - Headlight Switch
26 - White - Fusebox Hi Beam
27 - White/Black - Lightswitch
28 - Red - Fusebox
I have a relay block from an Sbug here with a few wires missing.
Remaining wires are as follows,
Headlamp relay
26 - White - from fuse
27 - White/Black
24 - Yellow
Indicator relay
12 - Purple.
I hope this is of some limited help.

Hi
You can download wiring diagrams from The Samba, the only difference between Aussie supers is that in 1972 the local speedo had a a left and right
blinker light where as any other VW just had a central light that did both sides.

okay have wired up my hazard and indicators
bg = right side
bw= left side
problem is i have hazards now only with 2 pin flasher relay and not with 3 pin relay.
it always worked on 3 pin, just by accident it worked on 2.
also the indicators will not work at all? this has got me stumped.
any ideas on this one, i'm out, this is the only thing that is stopping me from driving the blasted car.
Welcome some new answers.
Cheers Paul

Hi
I've never tried to use a 2 pin flasher.
Try these diagrams, they are for a 73 but should be the same, the diagrams with all lines are head ....

THere is 2 kinds of 2 pin flasher relays.
THe ones VW used had a metal case and were grounded by being clipped to the brace behind the speedo that was metal.
The other kind I've got some crappy aftermarket one here like it, it grounds itself through all the indicator bulbs.
Is the 3 pin relay a new one?
There are 2 pin orientations with them, one has positive on the left, the other has it on the right so if you have the wrong one the indicators wont
work without switching the wires around.

Steve, it always ran on 3 pin. i went and tidied up the wiring and then i checked the earths on the bulbs.
i got my lights to work, so they are fine.
its just the indicators and the hazards need to work on the 3 pin. just hazards on 2 pin are no good to me.
also what is the solid yellow line at the bottom of the diagram with the numbers in it. not used this one before.
cheers

Hi
In the second jpeg the you can see the items are listed with a current track number, you use that to find which part of the diagram the item is in, eg
E2 is the turn signal and dimmer switch in current track 15 & 43.

That is usually the thin brass contacts catching and bending
usually the one embedded in the steering wheel wears through
