Thanks for the comments.

It is my first Beetle, but I have restored an SS Torana (hatchback) and a GTR in the past, but I have always had a love for the pre-70's beetles.

It is a Canberra original, sold by Greg Cusack Pty Ltd on July, 27 1965 (paperwork came with the car). I am the fourth owner. The car (named Missy by its previous owner) is still running the original 6 volt system with the original 1192cc motor and drum brakes all round.

I am about to fit a new drum braking system and brake lines (front to back) as the original drums have done 86,000 miles from the hand written maintenance records that came with the car, they have been machined a few times.

I'm going to keep it total stock and original as I like the idea of driving a car that is nearly 50 years old and has kept that nostalgic era. I would like another pre-70's beetle to have as my Cali car and use that as my daily (rain free) drive. This car still has that old car smell, look and feel which makes it a head turner.

More pics to come

great find!

When buying new drums etc.... insist on german made; nothing is as good as the OE stuff but still better than Brazil or China

Thanks for advice guys.

I have bought the drum replacements through Vintage Vee Dub (Boris) and he has sent me all German parts for the job. I read some horror stories on this website about products by other manufacturers. ClassicVWBug YouTube clips also recommended German only parts.

I have been looking at VW pics on the web, and do I like the look of beetles that sit a little lower the normal. Mine sits in the usual position (back wheels toed in) but I think it would look nice and corner a little better if it was lowered just an inch.

I do want to keep it stock, but I am just spit-balling with the idea of having the car sit nicer on the road.

What are peoples thoughts? Pros & Cons

Very Nice. So jealous :tu:
If you lower it, it isn't like you cant return it to stock easily.

Oh well
