Muffler options for 65 VW
Hi All,
Just thought I would ask if anyone has installed a Abarth, GT style (2 tip) etc muffler to their stock 1192cc/1200cc motor.
I have a 1965 stock engine and I was wondering if any of these mufflers would help improve the performance of the car. I know installing a bigger
motor is usually the norm, but I was just looking to improve the tune/sound of the car.
I saw a clip on ClassicVWBugs about installing a Distributor from a 1200cc bus and installing an Abarth exhaust improved the stock motor (pick up
wise) for highway runs.
Any thoughts out there

get a Vintage Speed Arbarth style

You need to be careful in getting one that has heat risers
Also consider getting flanged connections on your heater boxes to get rid of the leaky clamps

Thank for the advice Dubbers. This is a great site for us newbies.
The original muffler has seen better days and I was thinking of replacing it. I am doing a few other replacement jobs (drum brake system - got all the
drum parts from Boris - Vintage VW).
This is my very first Beetle, but I am already feeling I may end up with more than one in the garage. I have restored an SS Torana (Hatchback) and GTR
in the past but I have always had a sweet spot for the Beetles, plus they are great to work on and awesome to cruise in.
Nothing beats cruising in my Beetle
