WTB: Front bumper to suit 69 Beetle
Hi Folks,
New to the forum so thought I'd start with trying to find a part, currently restoring my wife's 69 Bug and need a new front bumper as she wasn't
too kind to her old one.
Needs to have good chrome and minimal to no dents if possible please.
Drop me a PM if you have something of interest. I'm located in Sunbury Vic but if need be would be happy to pay freight for a good one if
interstate.
Regards Ryan

WELCOME TO AUSSIE VEE DUBS
Hi Ryan
Your 69 FRONT bumper is the same on 1968> on NON SUPERBeetles
although I have a Front Bumper off a 71 Superbug on 68 My beetle
but the bumper brackets had to be modified otherwise the bumper ends would touch the body.. [guards]
New Mexican or Brazillian bumpers are Much thinner plus the chrome starts to deteriate as soon as it is unwrapped..
I have a Brasillian rear bumper on My beetle, I just give it a bit of Mothers or or Meguiers good wax every month or FEW WEEKS..
it will protect the chrome

Thanks for the reply fellas.
Lee I've been looking for about 6 months for a nice condition one, missed out on one on Gumtree by about 2 mins and another was on a shell but seller
wasn't willing to sell bumper separately ( which I can fully understand ). I've toyed with getting a Mexican or Brazilian replica but I'm worried
about quality. Last parts I ordered of that ilk were running boards and I ended up having to return three pairs until a set without any damage finally
appeared. I can get the one I have rolled and chromed for $450 but I'd prefer to not spend that much and find one with a little bit of wear to match
the rear.
Thanks for the offer Bushed but I'm after chromed bumpers as I'm restoring the bug back to it's original paint scheme, so I'd prefer the bumpers
be original as well.
Regards Ryan

OK on the damaged parts..
because of the very thin metal used compared to Original VW parts they can be damaged easily
just thinking that a bumper maybe OK when shipped but I remember they dent VERY EASILY..
like bumping into a wheel barrow.. lol..
whereas You could push a wheel barrow without any problems with a VW bumper..
I have a VW Bumper on My shed roof - I rubbed it back and painted it metallic silver, and its still not rusted - been there since 2005..
I had a Brasiallian bumper there and its nearly rusted away.. both sides..
the metal under the chrome seems to just Rust very badly bubbling all the chrome off..
My Son found My rear bumper in an antique shop, lol.. and it was still sealed in a plastic bag.. made in Brasil..
its very thin...
but it hasn't rusted as yet... I painted the back of it a few times before it was put on.. and I keep the chrome waxed with Meguiars or Mothers car
Wax.. and on anything else chromed....
If You had a good german bumper [no dents] You could get it rechromed , but its very Expensive... but its usually a very good job....
I have heard of people getting a new Brasillain bumper rechromed...
but the thiness of the metal is still a worry..
I was always going to put a german bumper under the brasillian one for strength.. but I havn't ever done it...

Ryan, a paint on of brake fluid would bring these back to orig CHROME as new chrome...shame really but I have no use for them, so a fair price will
sell them.
I don't think they are Brasilian (yet) so solid..I
will consider selling just the one, also B. 04212 86423
