Definitely salty (403.431 AUD), but they aren't printing these anymore.
It will take the right buyer, at the right time, and the right circumstances,
but what this seller has is so rare, I believe he can wait it out a bit longer.
Original ad placed: Tue Dec 04, 2012
It's not like he's paying a mortgage on this item, or property taxes, or insurance.

He probably stumbled upon it by accident and only paid a penance of what it can bring. No need to be in a hurry, IMO.

Hi Steve - the seller is Greg Noble and he's been selling VW stuff for years on The Samba and has a good reputation. He told me he bought this about

ten years ago from a VW literature collector. I blame you for this Steve - I bought it and it'll be winging its way back to OZ tomorrow. I think it is pretty rare

and will be handy for my Country Buggy - and when was the last time any of us saw one - if ever?

Regards
Gary

Gary,
Well, I usually take the blame for a lot of things, so this is nothing different, I guess. ;-) The ad now says "sale is pending".
If Bill Moore were still around he could probably write an article, if not a treatise, on the rare and obscure nature of original Country Buggy literature.

Glad you appreciate it for what it is and enjoy it.
You might want to write that bit o' gold into your will.
:-)

Regards,
Steve

Yes Bill was one of those treasures of life wasn't he - a natural VW enthusiast. I never met him but was looking forward to it - I always knew I was going to buy a Country Buggy - and felt a real sadness when he died.

Not selfishly for myself but for the passing of the enthusiasm and depth of knowledge he had built - and of course for the kind man he obviously was. I would love to have shown him this and had the animated discussions about its

contents with him that would have followed.

Well I will treasure it and think of him when I use it.

I know Bill used to sell copies of this parts manual and the owner's manual - anyone know where I might buy a copy of the owner's manual - original or copy? - to complete the set?

I bought the “Literature Pack” from Bill way back. Best decision I made about the CB restoration. It came with a colour copy of the cover of the CB Parts List and the CB Instruction Manual. There was a complete photocopy of the Parts List, but unfortunately not the Instruction Manual. I don’t know if that was an oversight or he didn’t have it. Didn’t matter much, I was happy with what I got for the price. The Parts List was the item I used the most.

There was also a CB Product Features book for VW salesmen to use to sell CBs, that was interesting. Several factory Service Information notices, a lot of newspaper & magazine items from 1969 and an original copy of that colour brochure with all the farm scenes on it. I’ve seen those sell for a few bucks on eBay.

Somebody may have the originals of all these, Dutchy perhaps?
I’ll trade some scans with someone who has a copy of the Instruction Manual.
In fact if you’re keen I’ll scan anything for you and send it to you.
Cheers
Tony

Gary, Tony et al.
I bought one of Bill's info packets. I still have the original mailing envelope and its dated 27 August 2008, postmarked from Norwa, NSW. My cost at that time was 140 AUD. As I recall the exchange rate favored the US dollar at that time (roughly .60 AUD to the USD), so I bought it for $84-$85 US. I thought I got a hell of a deal, even with the misspelled last name.

Acutally Bill still was peddling those packets shortly before his demise. He posted to the forum a little more than a month before he passed he had 6 sets for sale. My guess is his wife probably still has most of those sets.

This was Bill's next to the last post to Aussieveedubbers.

I have taken some pics for the historical record.

Hi Steve - that does look great value. You know you're going to have to buy a Country Buggy eventually just to match the paperwork you have!

11CAB - I got your PM but my reply isn't showing as sent - call me on 0419798698 if you haven't got it.

Gary,
Well, I like your way of thinking!
I've been scoping out the CB in Maine that's been on eBay and The Samba. The owner has been trying to sell it for a couple of months now and I have communciated with him. but he's way over the top and wildly optomistic.
http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=107476

Granted there only 12 CB's in North America, but rarity and owner preception only goes so far as monetary value.
Actually there's a CB within 2 hours of me here in Indiana, KO 788, but I've had no contact info at all. Never got that from Bill.
He did send me a couple of pics, but they were lost long ago on another crashed hard drive. Those pics are posted nowhere else.
I definitely would know them if I saw them again.

Another CB is near Kankakee, Illinois, about 3- 3 1/2 hours away, and a third is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about 6 1/2 hours away. Very little is known about these two CBs.
Seems to be a big privacy issue with all the US owners.......like everyone is out to steal their Buggy, starting tonight........

Believe me, I'm an interested party. but the deal has to make sense (& cents.....if ya get my drift). :-)

Regards,
Steve

Yes well I never thought I'd have to pay $8000 for mine - I've been checking them out for the last decade as they went from $3000 to $27000 and many prices in between.

I am happy to have a nearly rustfree one with the correct seats and original engine but it still needs paint and a soft top. Should have bought Volma's one in Tasmania.

Hard to know when to buy sometimes - but I think if you can get a goodish one in the States for $7-12k you should probably grab it. We won't live forever and might as

well have some fun on the way through.

Graham,
Well I'm glad to know someone else has seen them and they aren't lost forever following Bill's demise. As I recall, it was done over as an enclosed cab ute. Also it had some sort of headlight bar or bracketing above the front bumper. Looked like it had definitely been used as a farm or ranch vehicle.

Are you taking care of the CB pics @ Volksculture or is Ashley Roan doing that himself? Did you pass along your pics to him? How about the others that Bill had? Ashley or you get them from Bill......or Bill's wife or family?

Regards,
Steve

Graham,
Well, it looks to me like the CB pics credited to Bill were mostly posted in late 2012......long before he passed away.
It's not really an official CB pic site like you had going at manxgallery.org, but it is a pretty extensive collection of CB pics. I haven't determined if everything at your site got transposed to Bill's.
See: http://www.volksculture.com/photo/album/listForOwner?screenName=1zdero7elu2lw

btw, it looks like the manx site is still up, if anyone wants to have a look.
http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/Country-Buggies

Volks Culture is Ashley Roan's site, as far as I know.
Maybe Bill did all the work posting and Ashley didn't have anything to do with it. Bill was member of Volks Culture.

Anybody know anything about all that???

Regards,
Steve
