CB King Pin Overhaul

Hello All, My name's Tony Beven, Whyalla, SA KO813.
After showing Bill what I'd done with my king pins he suggested I share it with you all. When I bought this set they were in bad condition. Seemingly from new, the forging was never bored correctly, the King Pin bushes were pushed in and reamed but not completely cleaned up. The pins were badly worn too. Worst of all they were disasembled with a very big hammer and quite badly knocked about.
I ground the king pins, line bored and faced the forgings, made new king pin bushes, re-machined the link pin cap bores, stretched out the caps to suit, grub screwed the link pin bushes, made new thrust washers, O rings, grease nipples, clean up and paint, there it is.
I've got the gear to do this sort of thing and would be willing to do it for others, in the interest of CB preservation. It's time consuming of course and wouldn't be cheap. If you're interested PM me and we'll talk.
Cheers, Tony

Just Completed Another Set

All
I've just completed another set of stub axles, this time for a customer. They needed the standard treatment plus an outer bearing area knurled back up to size and the LH thread repaired. That required a custom "clamp" type nut to be made. Turned out pretty well I think.
It also gave me a chance to verify the costs for these survices. Schedule of rates & picture attached. If anyone needs something done let me know.
Cheers
Tony

Tony,

Good work and great stuff with your pricing schedule. At least guys will know what they are up for in the event they need the front end reworked.
Regards,
Bill.

Front end rebuilds.

Bevo,

Was just talking to a guy in Victoria who had his front end refurbished by you. He said he was delighted with the great job you did and it aligned to your pricing schedule so he knew what he was up for.
Dont expect to be rushed off you feet for other guys wanting front ends done but you can bet that when one job comes along then others will follow.

Hi Chris
Yes still in Mt Pleasant. I'm always ready to help someone with a CB. Do some stub axle work when needed, just did a Kombi king pin job for a mate in Darwin, and a couple of very earl beetle king pin sets recently, a 54 & a 56. I help out with a class 1 off road team too. Haven't had time to work on my CB for a while, the farm takes up a lot of spare time currently, it'll come. We need to catch up if you're just over at Mt Barker. I'll give you a call.
Cheers
Tony

Great to speak with you today Tony and thank you for calling. Will catch up very soon. I am now a lot happier than I was earlier this week with hearing that the reduction Box may be up the creek :-( You call was well timed and I am now smiling with the concept on a superbug chassis under the Country Buggy LOL. But seriously looking forward to a chat and a drive to Mt Pleasant to catch up.

Talk again soon.

Chris

Country Buggy Stub Axle Overhaul

Hi All
Just completed another set (at last) for Andy T.
These were very corroded in the king pin interference fit area and had to be welded up. This actually means that I can straighten out that area, they are always out of line from the factory. Managed to clean up the bores OK, no sleeve required. Problem is you can't machine too much out of the bore or the male section ends up bigger than the king pin section, after it's ground, which means it isn't possible to assemble them.
These had been done before. Whoever did them did a great job, better than some. They used white Delrin link pin bushes, which is a bit strange?
Moral of the story is, keep the water out of them, with lots of grease.
Cheers
Tony
