Original Bumper Color
I have mainly seen black bumpers and grey bumpers on Country Buggys but was wondering what the original factory color the bumpers were on a Country
Buggy when it rolled off the assembly line? Mine has black bumpers but I believe that they have been repainted before. I want to get my restoration
of my CB as close to original factory specs as possible. Any insight on this topic would be helpful. My CB is Savannah Beige.
Thanks

If you look at the early ads for the country buggies the bumbpers appear to be white
,,http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/countrybuggy/cover.jpg
The back bumpers end up stained sometimes from the mufflers, so its more practical black.

Thanks, I think that black would look better anyways.

Looking again at the ad, they look more grey than white. Kind of like the grey done on the "Old Bug" CB restoration.

I got my copy of the brochure out, definitely not black in those early pictures, perhaps they were later. I’ve never seen any colours other than
black, I don’t think??
Perhaps I’ll have to get my black bumpers out and re-paint them now?
Tony.

It appears to be light grey possibly. I know the Country Buggy restored by Randy Carlson's Old Bug a few years back used the grey bumpers on it.
I haven't talked to him but maybe it was a color that Bill discussed with him during the restoration. Bill knew everything Country Buggy!

I got my original colour matched at an auto paint shop it was in good condition so we got the match pretty close ,it was sort of a light grey but
maybe had a tich of beige I will be painting it soon so if anyone is interested in the result I will let you know in the next month.

Well that really surprises Me.
I did see Country Buggies back in 1969-70 and many over the years
in VW shows, but I cannot remember ever seeing one with grey bumpers..
Maybe grey was used in the early models used in the photo shoot for the brochure...????
and when grey was mentioned first off, I would have thought it would have been a darker grey, like a VW beetle color....???
Certainly doesn't look right.... grey bumpers and black hubcaps????
Learn something every day..

So, is Yours an early model????
seems strange to Me that VW would use another colour to paint the bumpers when hubcaps were painted black...
as Volkswagen Australasia didn't have a lot of funds for extras like extra coloured paint....
