car trailer axle position??
Hi guys,I'm building a single axle car trailer at the moment and want to know how you figure out where to put the axle,I'm aware that with our rear
engined clunkers the axle is usually further back on our trailers but do I have to work it out mathematically or just put it pretty much underneath
the jacking point of the beetle etc...close enough hairy muff????
Thanks....

Ultimately comes down to tow ball weight of you car. You can measure someone elses or If you have a set of scales you can work out the CG of your car
and it's a pretty easy calc after that. Probably already worked out somewhere on the net. or I made my chassis sit on a simple angle iron frame and
moved it backwards or forwards to get my desired tow ball weight then tacked it in place. Trailer can then be used for another car style by removing
tacks.

That's a good idea......
But the axle inline with the jacking point on the bug sounds pretty close you think in general....

Hi
I use a single axle trailer for front & rear engined cars, back the rear engine cars on, front engine cars go on frontwards.
I could measure it up for you but maybe you could measure other trailers at race meetings etc

Cheers Steve...I measured up the trailer I borrow off Humpty and made some changes for mine... I've made mine longer behind the beetle with a 800mm
beaver tail....slightly shorter draw bar...anyways,I get it sorted, thanks heaps..

Hi
Dont weld the mudguards on and then you can move the axle around with a car on it
