40hp extended pushrod tubes ?


Trying to think of ways to reduce oil surge in my Vee, I wondered if there is an extended pushrod tube available for the 40hp engine?



I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Get some old tubes and cut n weld onto the end to increase the length

NO I have now seen 1200 extended tubes

I think I read somewhere that they used 36hp tube sections and fitted them into 40 hp or 1600 tubes

That's not a bad idea, Steve. A short bit of 36hp tube inside the 40hp tube, at the follower end should work. As there is little 'up and down' pushrod movement at that end, clearance should not be a problem...I'll check it out.

the 36 is smaller in diameter to the 40hp should work

Look in the bible("How to hot rod VW engines")
shows a flared bit, added on the end of the tube, just like you describe.
You knew that it was just stored away in the 'archives'.

Nice work, Dave...you made me think - and that's becoming hard work. :lol:

Back in 1961, I made baffles to stop [more like slow down] the oil from rushing down the pushrod tubes into the rocker covers. after searching the "archives", as you put it, I made a set of baffles to fit into the crankcase - as close to the 'originals' as I can remember. It worked back then, so hopefully it will work again
