CB runnng gear


How much wider in the track does a Reduction hub CB rear end make compared to a beetle rear end? Same with the front, is it just the wider hubs on a CB front end that make the track wider or is the crossmember?
I have bought a 58 Beetle with supposed CB running gear

I'm working away from home for a while so I won't be able to check it right out. I would like to tack a back end back on and put original guards and engine lid on.
I was going to put this in the off road section but you folks here know CB's so I posted here, if it's in the wrong spot Mods please shift it.

Looking at the front hubs on that pic it appears to be the 4WD version

I wish it was, that would be interesting.
Actually, looking at it again, the front end could be CB but the rear is something else. Those aren’t 64 on Type 2 rear brake drums. Are they pre 64 with the smaller axle nut?

Have a better look Tony- the front has the small bolt on hubs which had the splines for the drive shafts- same as the Schwimmer

From memory,I remember seeing an early Bus transaxle which was a split case version with reduction hubs and the small axle nuts.It was in BJ's wrecking yard here and he wanted to give it to me,but I declined his offer.It was about 18 years ago and thought then-"why would I bother"

I think they are big nut, not home just now so bit hard to see but I was sure they were big nut. The CB had a big nut rear? From memory the small nut set up doesn't have those swirls on the hub? The mounting setup is different to a Van one.

Yep that's the country buggy only shock bracket. The rear is definitely CB. Front too probably. Good stuff.

I was referring to the pic in the link Tony- definitely 4wd- the white Volkscare one is all CB

Yes, I see what you mean. Definitely 4WD. Wouldn't you love to find one of those. I'd settle for a 4x4 VW Iltis.
