Congratulations on the good work, looks really nice, and it would be good to know more about it......but

I don't think it's an L Bug. L bugs have the curved windscreen and front struts, allowing the spare wheel to lie flat, which from the photos it doesn't have, but it could just be the perspective.

As best as I can remember 76 beetles were often made from a variety of parts as they were using up stock before finalising the production run. So you got some neat things like the late bumpers with the indicator lights, the same engine lid as an L and probably a few other things, but the front suspension, which is the main differentiator, doesn't appear to be L Bug.

As you might imagine there are two camps to these things. Those who would much prefer your beetle without the struts, and those that prefer their beetles with struts.

Either way, your can looks great.

Cheers
Craig

nice bug. but your a bit misinformed my sbug has a flat screen and struts.
click the link below in my signature to see it.
the 76 was actually never referred to as a letter so nether s or L its is its own model but as someone said they were made up from left over bits.

it's 100% not an Lbug.
Lbugs are the 73-75 superbugs with curved screen, proper dash and struts

here you go this shows the difference between them.

nice car, I saw it in person at Andy Roberts VW house picnic, looks like the dash fan is missing as well and the holes in the dash are still there for the missing padded dash
