Dustless Abrasive Blasting - Anyone?
I've been looking at Dustless Blasting now for a few months.
Have watched countless Youtube videos, spoken to the sales people for a couple of brands, tried to find anyone who does it locally and generally tried
to work out if its the way to take the paint off my cars.
So who out there has tried it?
What's the verdict?

i don't think dustless and blasting could go together
I've had my cars grit blasted works good
What are you trying to achieve ?? with the dustless ??

Dustless is wet sand blasting, uses less than 50% of the grit used in sandblasting. The water does most of the work and also stops the dust and debris
going everywhere.
The benefits are that the water cools the metal which stops warping, clean up is easier, rust gingering is slower and surface result is much
smoother.
I'm interested in how others have found the results, especially down the track after paint and putting the vehicle back in use.

Ok yes I've seen a few shells wet blasted in leaves a residue on the surface which has to be removed prior to any paint
also its get IN every where just like grit blasting

What's your suggestion for removing all paint from a shell? Is this the go or should I look at dipping or sanding?

well I've had dipping for the flat panels guards doors engine and bonnet lids make sure you flush the seams good with some thinners leave
the panels in the ho sun to make any excess solution sweat out of the seats
grit blast ( find a place that knows what there doing ) for the shell or the obviously rusted places lower door hinge areas etc
paint stripper for the flat sections on the shell but its time consuming
do u have a chemical stripping place in SA ?? the one here in sydney always changes the price

I am for blasting everything.
Dipping the full car is great but costs twice as much from what I can tell.
I have my whole bus blasted in and out and under for $2500. Including putting it back in primer.
Worth every cent as I had already mechanically stripped a lot of the bus and the metal was sound. After blasting all the paper thin metal dissapeared.
Made for more rust work but if I have not had it blasted then there would still be paper thin metal in there. Would have made welding in those areas
very difficult and quality of job would have been poor. Now at least it is all done right.
I used the same guy that blasts some of Das Resto cars and he was also recommended to me by someone else. Did a great job with no warping.
Maybe ask the local guys to you who they use over a yellow pages listed blaster.

Cheers 68BUS. Did you get wet or dry blasting. I've got the contact there already, mostly I'm trying to get a assessment on whether it is the best
way to go.

Dry.
So it does take a bit of blowing to get all the stuff out after but worth the effort I think.

Minus Paint on South Rd-I have had 3 cars done and its the only way for me and a full Beetle was about $1500.Had the sunroof panel for my Oval
blasted-told the jerk that the panel was rarer than rocking horse shit,but it still came back with more waves than the Pacific.Dave who used to have
Minus Paint was a perfectionist with his work.Havent tried the new owner yet,but will need him soon for my next project.

Cheers mate. I'll give em a call. Talked to that mob out on Churchill Rd at Cavan a month or so ago. Not really impressed.
Many Blokes up in Whyalla get cars blasted. I remember quite a few sweet rides when we were living there a few years ago.
