How water tolerant are the subi ej motors considering one for baja

Hi as the title says I'm considering an ej out of a 2000 forester
Has anybody ever had any dramas with sensor plugs wiring etc
Running a subi in a serious off-road Baja
We intend to run them to the cape once finished
So wanting reliability

As for the EJ22 in my Baja, all as I can say is "super reliable". As for the water I always hose down the engine except alt after a day beach run and it starts pretty much instantly. Haven't had it in deep water though.

The knock sensor sits on top of the block and you can get a puddle of water around it which makes the ecu poo its pants. I know people who have given themselves major headaches being overzealous with the gurney.

Interesting article
The other option that's high on the list of possibilities
Is a Toyota 1kz Te 3 ltr turbo diesel (early 2000's hilux)
Mine is being built on a 74 bay window chassis
Basically so the extra weight shouldn't be a problem
But more expensive to set up and still ultimately
Has electronic injection so still vulnerable to a
Degree
