Melbourne 6V coil loan anyone?
Hello Melbournians,
I am trying to diagnose a stalling issue with my 6V Oval Beetle.
I've got replacement carbs n dizzys but thinking a known, working 6V ignition coil would be good to rule out of my coil is causing the problem.
I've only moved to Melbourne in the last few weeks so anyone near Heidelberg Heights would be great or further afield too. If someone would help me
out it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

You can test the resistance of a coil with an ohm meter...
a 12 volt coil is usually 2 - 3 or 4 ohms.... between the two small terminals... make sure all the terminals on the coil are perfectly clean...

How did You go getting a 6 volt coil?? Mike...
there would be hundreds [or more] in vw owners sheds that changed over to 12 volts.....

99 % of your ignition problems are in the fuel system
and 99% of your ignition problems are in your fuel system
Check the fuel system from front to rear its the easiest tank, filter, fuel lines, pumps, float level
Then go the ignition system

Coil was getting rather warm after less than 1K of driving when it stalled and had to leave for a few minutes before it would restart. Carb is only
just been rebuilt, pump has new WW diaphragm and the tank was cleaned out before a new fuel tap with copper screen installed.
I could always drive without the fuel cap on to see if a vac lock but the cork gasket is missing so doubt it'd be that either.
Still, if the loaned coil doesn't change things then go thru the fuelling again I shall.

As I suspected the loan coil has fixed the issue and the engine now runs without conking out after 500metres.
Many thanks to KarmannGhia60 for the loan of his coil to help fault find the problem.
