Type 3 oil cooler mounting bolt
Hi all,
So I'm building up a new engine for a Type 3 and the case has an 8mm thread for the oil cooler to secure it to the case (in addition to the two holes
for nut and bolt) Type 1 style. Unfortunately the Type 3 cooler uses a 6mm stud.
My question is, does the standard oil cooler have enough meat around the mounting hole for me to drill it out a bit so the 8mm stud will fit through
it?
The other option is a machined stud that steps down from 8mm to 6mm, but I'm worried that this will snap off when I'm threading it in as the thread
seems really tight, plus I'd need to get one made up specially.
Cheers,
Eden

This is a bit of hotly discussed topic on the samba, I have drilled one out myself and did have some concerns myself but it did not fail.
