Clutch Slipping with new clutch
Hi all,
Just need a few opinions on this very frustrating problem. Just recently fitted my freshen up engine into my 68 fastie with a brand new clutch. The
flywheel was resurfaced and made sure it was clean before fitting the clutch kit. Bolted it up and took it for a test drive it was shuddering like all
hell pulling away, was horrible. Gears still select perfectly.
Any ideas or help on this would be great.

Clutch slipping with new clutch
Hi all,
Posted this not long ago and seems to have disappeared so apolgizes if you looked or replied.
I recently fitted my freshened up engine back into my 68 fasty however I fitted a new clutch and went to test drive once bolted up and it's was
shuddering like all hell on pull off! Not very nice at all! The flywheel was resurfaced and cleaned before fitting the clutch kit. Throw out bearing
was installed using orginal clips however I had to shorten one slightly as the depth of the holes are different to the previous bearing. That's
seemed ok a little looser but crimped them together.
Any help/opinions on this really frustrating problem would be great.

Hi bizarre yes pressure plate is new too was part of the kit.
Have you had this issue before hellbugged? I'm just trying to trouble shoot. Thanks guys

Clutch cable too tight.
Check the specifications for the cable conduit above the gearbox. On Beetles there should be a 25mm curve in the conduit or the clutch will shudder.
Workshop manuals will have a good explanation.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Hi Joe
The problem is in your first post . The flywheel was done. If the flywheel runs out even the slightest bit it causes the clutch to not be adjusted
correctly and it slips. You will have adjusted the thrust bearing up so tight to get the clutch to clear the running out flywheel it won't let the
clutch grip. You must have free play between the throw out bearing and the pressure plate fingers. If there isn't then it needs to come out. If
there is then the diaphragm split first go and it needs to come out anyway. Sorry. Either the flywheel has some crap between it and the crank or
it's ground badly. You need to check all this out and get it straightened up.

As tony says check these items,it may also be the pressure plate locating in the flywheel recess,sometimes the pressure plate is a little proud and
doesn't sit in the recess causing it to be misaligned which will not gibve full clamping pressure on the plate and also give a shudder.

Did you remove the packing clips to hold the springs in place there little u shaped items

Hello again, thanks for all the suggestions and vw54 I didn't remove any packing clips as I don't think there were any attached I'm sure I would
have noticed them but it's a possibility.
Anyway found the first problem the outer cable is practically straight as pictured never going to help. Will adjust this tomorrow and if it doesn't
help then out comes the engine again to check out what's exactly going on.
I'll keep you all posted to what the problem is. Thanks again to all the info
