My turn

Thanks to the answers on Helli coils, heres why I needed them.
I now see why people have a whinge on being ripped off. At the moment I only have one arm of any use, and wanted to recon the 2ltr moter, so with the help of the wife we got it out and sent it off to
!!!Bribie Island!!!. All except the tin ware. Couple of thousand plus change we got it back Friday last, heres where the fun starts. Sent it on a pallet with rachet straps, got it back with string, had been dropped. Bent studs on top of 3&4 manifold, pulled out 2 manifold studs to head, fixed all that installed it with wife, start up, take it for a run, oil every where, noticed that the thermo and the flaps had been removed and not returned. What they hadn't done was block the hole that the pulley goes on with bolt,,, the filter flange is pissing out oil, the releif valve is eratic and sticking, oh! and I had to get another distributor drive as there was none when it returned, the casing is leaking where it was parted, bottom front, the temp went to 120 and the oil pressure dropped to 1 kpa and under, was normally 2.5 before the recon, same pump???both rocker covers leaked as they still had old gasket in them,,, SO there goes our hard earned Xmas hols, if you want anything done do it yourself, I said to the wife that I was going to ring the guy cause it is under warrenty, would you trust truck drivers she said, and would you get it back in any better condition. She said go down to "Life Line" they care, god I love my wiff. So that's my winge, Thank you very much, must go join the A.L.P just can't see what else to do.....:cussing

Stuff life lane!

That sort of sh!t shouldn't exist down life lane, i feel you have stumbled down the path of sh!t workmanship or possibly passed the intersections of Shoddy Avenue and Debauched bastards street!

:( Unlucky dude, I would be fuming, and using my one arm in combination with my tongue to ring a few ppl to get things sorted  grrrrr

Not On

Just read the post and have a few suggestions for you.
Obviously you have a receipt for the work and warranty, well ring him and complain! Also ring the transport company and see if there is any insurance to claim the damages back from them. Oh and take lots of photos! Be extremely calm and rational when you ring both companies, and see how the sender packaged it onto the pallet (the motor may have been swapped in transit - check your engine number) Get all the details on the arrival of your engine (how it was packed, if they got the engine number, in fact you will think of a few good questions when you sit and think of it) and how they then repackaged yours to be returned.

The other thing to do is to tell both companies (not threaten) them that the Department of Fair Trading will be receiving a complaint from you complete with photos (if you have any), and any witnesses to the packaging and state of the engine when it was sent.

The Department of Fair Trading is then who to contact in Brisbane. They will investigate the claims and hopefully you will get a good reply from them. The only problem will be the amount of time it can take.

You, like all of us, spend a lot of time and money on our cars and to be ripped off is just not on. Start taking steps, and if all else fails and you can prove the condition of the engine prior to and after shipping and maintenance, then the final step is the State Ombudsman.

Give it a go. I know that sometimes just the suggestion of calling the Department of Fair Trading is enough to make some companies quake in their boots. But the most important thing is to document everything.

Good Luck

My Turn

Thanks Kathy, took your advice and gave "Bribie Island " a call,,, he said that he has had trouble with differant carriers before and had no luck with getting anything back from them. Also said " most bolt holes don't go all the way through" re: not replaceing the pully bolt.
I know that by taking unneeded things off the engines will make no difference, but just imagine a vintage car having original parts taken off and not returned. I'm still mulling over how far to take this, and have taken on board your suggestions, thanks again:cry

My Turn

Not meant to be shoddy, VERY well known recon shop, also does micro light engines. Took the van in to freinds to be worked on (Owns Bug Me, Bundy) with-out me knowing he phoned ""said"" workshop yesterday, outcome so far is that they will pay for my time and cost of repairs to engine, and will pay him for the repairs he has to make to get the engine up to scatch,, my freind says that it is like getting blood out of a stone though,, we will wait and see. You are right Kathy, make a little noise and reputations are on the line. Tune in for the next episode, will he? won't he? could he?you don't want to miss it, at least I can smile,, as I no what mates can do for you.

Sorry to hear of you're troubles...Im in a similar situation, had a car frieghted from Sydney to Brisbane and they damaged it (u2u me if anyone wants to know which company - they are based in Brisbane) and now they want me to pay a $500 excess, fair trading are involved...but a real pain in the arse.
