[FAQ] Images - How to use your personal webspace

Ok I said I'd throw together a few lines so that people who don't know how to upload images to there personal webspace can. First off Its really easy, however every ISP is different :( I'll show the basics for Optus and Bigpond but every other ISP should be VERY similar.

Ok first off you will need a FTP (file transfer protocal) program. In laymens terms this is just like explorer without the graphics. I strongly suggest CuteFTP as it is probably one of the easies to use. >>> DOWNLOAD A 30 DAY TRIAL HERE

Hmmm. I wonder what could be in the "Babes" folder. ;)

Nah, I don't want to have delete a nice thread like this one. :)

Btw, Windows XP owners can do this with "Web Folders".

Start
My Network Places
Add Network Place (top left task)

http://www.greebo.net/webfolders/addnetplace.jpg

Click Next. Next.

http://www.greebo.net/webfolders/clicknext.jpg

Type in your web space location (as above)

http://www.greebo.net/webfolders/enterURL.jpg

Click Next. Type in a "friendly name" for this site, or just accept the default.

http://www.greebo.net/webfolders/sitename.jpg

Click Next. Untick "Log in anonymously" and type in your username.

Click Next / Finish. This saves your web space as an icon, and you don't need to do this process again.

To use it:

Go to My Network Places
Double click your web space icon
The first time you'll need to enter your password:

If you're the only user of your computer, tick "Save my password". Otherwise, don't.

Once logged in, it's just like having a slow network drive:

You can do pretty much everything you can in normal Explorer, including drag and drop. Even launch programs if you must.

To make it easier, you can drag the icon from My Network Places to your desktop for easier access if you like.

My method doesn't require any piracy or third party tools. I believe this works in Windows 2000 (same procedure as above). There's an equivalent feature in MacOS X as well (anyone care to do a writeup?)

over the years i've used like 4 dial up ISP's (the best being Ihug) and also Bigpond and Optus. Each and every provide has provided webspace as part of there monthly package. So to answer your question just about all do, if your's does not then as why or change providers. As I ststed earlier yes Optus does provide subscribers with 10 MEG per email accout (for cable, should be similar for dialup). So thats loads of room for all your pictures :)
