There is probably a mint 23 window in a shed there somewhere that someone will claim in 600 years but have no fuel to run it.

What a horrible thing.
The deaths of all those PPL. Especially the emergency & military workers who knew nothing about the radiation dangers and their virtually commited suicide!
When you see things like this, it really makes you wonder if nuclear technology is such a great idea! The materials needed to produce it and the waste and associated disposal problems should have sounded the death bell for this particular energy supply before it started. Who actually profits from it in the long run! definately not the Earth and its population of creatures.

Mate if i could have gone a trip like that when I stayed in Russia I would have been there in a second. That would be one awsome experience. And she is one gutsy lady.

How fascinating..

Incredible, she is very knowledgable about the nuclear technology and radiation.. Spose she has to be.. And her dad being a fricken Professor or whatever probably helps..

Something else I find quite sureal about this site is the fact that; well we use the net for numerous reasons, one of them is this site... But thats what she has done with her time on the web... Wierd? Informative? Alternative? Educational? All of the above?
One thing is certain.... the site is... Different.

Amazing
I look at that and wonder what will they (the future) think of us (our generations) when they can eventuially get back into the places that are too high a count at the moment.
I agree that places that have been abandoned have an eerie feeling to them, and that if you have not been prepared for something like it, you will get very spooked.
I'd love to do that journey, to see what it is like, and what the area ha sbecome in the future.
Good to see she has done what she has, in the way she has, basic, non emotive (to an extent - it could be exceptionally emotive) and informative.

Tis sad we actually have to 'make time' to look at these sorts of things..... the most disturbing were the last pictures, posessions left, childrens toys, little shoes. A picture says 1000 words etc, that is one powerful piece.

Most of us wouldn't give that whole incident a second thought,, it's the past... or is it? We think we are in control of our lives, but ultimately some one else is in charge of our destiny.

I knew about it, but I hadn't thought about it until now.

Well it's going to be a Fantastic Time Capsule one day, with all that Stuff left behind.

Imagine going back 18 years and Looking at Melbourne as it was in 1986.

There would be Leg warmers, Baggys and fingerless Gloves laying around every where.

Not to mention the Micheal Jackson Tapes, Commodorre 64 Computers and Atari's.

But it was still a tragedy what happened there.

i found most disturbing the pics of hte trucks and the tankers in the bay. you look at it and you can jsut see that life just stopped. time is still and nothing will change. it reminded me of the book, z for zachariah ( ithink that was the name) about the life of a person after a nuclear war.

That was a pretty powerful site. Just simple words and pictures but done so well. You could never imagine what it was like, and is still like, but that was so telling... The best thing I've read on the web for a long time. Thanks for posting the link.

Woah - amazing.

Scary and kinda exciting really. I reckon she's a little crazy, you know how those bikers are. ;-) My mate here at the next computer's got a Ninja too (a newer one).

I didn't realise the extent of the destruction, the amount of land that was wrecked. Amazing. Nice find vwfool.

How many ppl have carked it because of coal mining in the last few hundred years? More than have ever been affected by radiation I bet! One could also count up all those electrocuted and/or killed by petroleum products. This whole nuclear thing gives me a nice glow on a cool autumn night
