Really done it now! computer kaput

Bad karma follows me everywhere. I think I am paying for all my sins of all previous lives as well as this one.

The verison of Oracle I have wont run on Win 98. So I added some more ram up to 192MB and was praying that I could install 2000, + oracle and even if it was painffully slow, still be able to finish and assignment that is due on tuesday. To save mucking up my win 98 install I also put in another old hard drive and plugged the cable from my good one into it.

Well now it dont boot. Doesnt do much of anything. Power comes on, but it doesnt attempt to boot at all. Not even from A drive. No beeps. No nuffin. I think I have zapped it.

Well that may be a blessing in disguise cos I may be able to talk to my friendly mortgage broker about getting some money back and buy a new tower.

I'm thinking I would want a Pentium 4. Want to start with 512MB RAM but have room to add more later. Run XP Pro.
That way hopefully I can have all my apaches, tomcats, oracles, jdks etc. What do you reckon.

And on top of that I wake up and someone has burnt my wheely bin to the ground. bastards.

u should always touch metal before touching a computer component to get rid of static electricity or wear a static wrist band .........make sure u have the jumper setting correct on the hard drive (though it would still boot even if u had this right) ....unplug everything......vacumm your computer ....replace ram...make sure ram clicks as u put it back in u might have to push it fairly hard......ummmm (trying to think of stuff).......

Err, please don't vacuum your computer. Vacuum cleaners can dispense very nasty static charges if they earth. If you want to clean it use a compressor or canned air.

There's most likely bits that havn't been killed inside so don't just junk the whole thng. Do some testing.

vacumms work fine as long as u dont touch the components....i do it all the time just to get the loose dust out

The little fuckers went on a rampage last night. Apprently the fire brigade was called out several times. They even burnt down one of the local playgrounds.

For the life of me I dont know why they make bins out of such flammable material. The bin was full, there were 3 things left after the fire. The metal axle. One tyre. And a rather well cooked rockmelon. Absolutely nothing else left. I picked up the debris in a bucket.

Cops are cruising around all day. Think they are pretty pissed off. They are searching cars n everyfink. Pity that judges will let them walk free anyhow. Hopefully the crims will keep low profile for a while.

Shit area. One of my daughters athletics friends have pulled their kids out of the local school, for term 2. Its a PITA taking your kids 5 - 10 kms away to school, but unless you want them in jail what can you do. She said she had her daughters friend knock on the door at 7:30pm to go and play. Her mum and dad were at the pub. The girls are 5 and 6 yrs old.

The computer is ??? I dunno. Being inspected by a professional tomorrow. I do everything inside the computer one handed, always hang on to the chassis while playing. I dunno what I have done. But now I have an XP box to play with for a while. Will see if I can screw it up. In the meantime I have my hardrive out and got a mate trying to get the files off of it. Only his computer is loaded and it is trying to load shitloads of drivers. May be too much work.

Celeron 1.2GHz doesnt seem as quick as my P3 500MHz, but the 48X CD ROM flies!

who wants to swap houses??? on top of the great wheely bin arson attack the other thursday night, someones house was on fire on saturday afternoon. Not sure if it is related or not to the wheelybin fiasco, but it was up where the cops were the other day.

This morning I got up and my kombi had been artistically attacked with some shaving cream or that crazy foam stuff, not sure which. Could have been worse I guess, could have been paint.

apart from that ... who can I send a list of a thousand different processes running on this XP box, that knows what they all are doing. There must be some that I can switch off. With the specs of this machine it should be running heaps quicker than my old junker but it isnt.

Hey Amazer,
just a suggestion. Got told a long time ago to wash off any shaving cream as it can do something to paintwork if left on. Not sure if a wives tale, or truth, but can't hurt.
Any idea who ?

Yeah I washed it off straight away, not that my paintwork is anything to worry about. A rello had shaving cream sprayed on the dashboard of their car on their wedding day. Stuffed it completely, went kinda marbly discoloured. (why you would stay sober enough on your wedding day to drive is beyond me - I got tanked)

No idea who it was. just out of control kids, with parents who couldnt care less. Kinda conducive to vigilante groups. I have baseball bat, just waiting for backup. You cant say anything cos you know you will get worse next time they walk past.

Yeah years ago my Mate had a Nice XC FAIRMONT, and when he got Married some tool painted it with Shaving cream.

You know just married and shit like that, anyway it stuffed the paint up big time.

It looked like Acid had been spilt on it.
