Most warranties are three years/60,000 km, although many are now offering three years/100,000 km. Some are three years/unlimited. There are shorter and longer warranties.

I'm sure the dealers want you to come back for servicing- they charge insane markup for simple jobs. It's almost certainly where they make their money in the dealership. If it was legal to screw the customer, they would.

Actually, the Trade Practices Act is from 1974, so it's not that old. It places the balance back in the marketplace. Many states have complementary Fair Trading Acts which are also interesting reading.

I have had very bad dealings with Mitsubishi service. I had a very good lancer which I would probably still have today if they had stuffed it at the 18 month service. That was in 94 and you live and learn.

I will never go back to a dealer service. Just buy genuine coolant! Genuine VW coolant for your model. Aftermarket coolant such as WYNNS is green. VW is either blue or pink. Get the right stuff. Cost more but cheaper than an engine teardown.

(Mitsubishi coolant is also green. Add WYNNS coolant like Albion Park Mitsubishi did and you may find you go through 6 radiators in 12 months - just try and sue me you bastards)

You do need more than a key to do a code scan and reset any fault codes, but anyone with the right module can do that. We had one at Hellbug. Surely there are others out there.

Athough I think you only need the ig key to reset the fault codes, Id really want to know what I was resetting first for which you'd need the code reader/programmer. Ive actually found progs. on the internet that let you use a PDA to read/clear codes.

Bug_Racer,
You wrote: "When you are a VW technician who works for VW you don't bother stamping the log book."
Your a VW Tech and you dont stamp your service book? This is very odd.
You wrote: "Anyway from what I have seen people pay more for a car if when it is sold it is sold with a mechanic
who knows the car and what has been done on it." I know that if I was buying a car for 25-30 K, Id want to see proof of servicing and all reciepts. I wouldnt take the word of the bloke who was selling the vehicle as gospel!
You wrote: "Anyway I buy a car for keeps . Whats the point of selling a car ?"
How many cars you got now? Id have about a dozen or so now if I NEVER sold one! Its hard to keep the three Ive got insured and registered now.
