help neded, URGENTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all,
I'm in a bit of trouble!!!
My 1800 van is running like a one-legged dog.
Everything was okay until about 5km from home yesterday.
The car lost power and kind of limped home.
Today it started first go, was revving fine, but it was 100% gutless. As soon as i tried to move it in gear...bleh. Engine struggled and died.
Did a LOT of tampering today trying to get it working again. Replaced the fuel pump with an electric, because I didn't trust the mech pump. Now it
didn't want to run at all.
Checked the carbies, the left one's float decided to jam. Unjammed it.
Replaced a couple of wiring connectors, even tried hotwiring the coil. Still almost impossible to start, sounds like it's running on 2 cylinders, and
need my foot on the accelerator to keep it running.
I still suspect the left carby (the idle one), and am hoping it has nothing to do with the topend rebuild I did.
Also considering maybe there's a leak between the head and inlet manifold. The studs were pulled on the head I put on (didn't realise until it was
too late).
Anyway, What's wrong with my van!!!! I'm moving interstate on saturday!!!!

...oh yeah, the rocker clearances still seem fine, and there are no major oil leaks, so I guess the head studs haven't pulled

Update....
Have to sell the bug now And the van is going into storage.
I think it broke a &*^(&%(^ ring. There's a 'squeak, squeak, squeak' coming from no. 3 cylinder, and the car can barely move under its own
power.
I also have to sell my nice 4wd enclosed trailer that the kombi tows (no more space in the container)

Look barls, you sound like a perfectly rational human at most times, but if you're suggesting violent actions against a kombi, there'll be trouble!
I take it you weren't suggesting what I think you were.
I have an 1800, and it plays up too. Has been doing so for months, and no-one knows what the problem is. Every time I get fuel, after having driven
for a while, and at other random occasions. I can't figure it out for the life of me!
I found that if I switched the engine off while driving, upon restarting it the problem (power loss) went away. Sometimes required several restarts.
However, your problem sounds rather more severe. Good luck, hope the move goes fine too.

yes...burn...BURN!!!!! Burn the damned ones!!! hAHAHahAhahaHaHahA!!!!
Anyhow, the van's in position to go into the container now. Such a pity. So much work. Failure. Again.
I think I'll just put in a 2L with the 1.8 flywheel on it after we move...or A subie motor, or something. That engine disgusts me. As long as I
don't take my foot of the throttle it blats away happily on the 2 or 3 cylinders that are working, while emitting the bone-shattering squeak from
it's innards.
On the bright side, for the first time since I got it, the heater works. Go the foam mattress and coke cans!!!!! The dual battery system also is very
handy for a flat battery. Just need to leave the ignition on for a few minutes and the primary battery is charged enough for some more cranking.
Anyhow, this whole situation reeks. I don't wanna sell my bug!!!!!
The bug may be a bit battered, but it never fails to run. The van on the other hand.....I think I used to have at least one breakdown a week. Like
when the output pipe on the fuel pump came adrift...or when that stupid clamp for the throttle cable came adrift uphill on an intersection....or when
the valve seat went byebye in the middle of nowhere...I could go on for hours, but I'd probably go insane.
...maybe next time a nice V6 or uhhh...something cheap. Yeah!
