A few n00b questions
Hey guys,
These questions may sound stupid to you, but could you please answer them
1)How much would a beach buggy cost (including engine etc. from an old Bajaj) if I purchased it as a kit. I can get the engine myself, I just need the
rest. So how much would that be?
2)What stops these cars from being stolen?
3)What stops you from getting we? |

depends what you are after mate.
If you are after a Baja, then it can cost from $100, to $10,000 for a excellet show peice.
As for a fibre glass buggy.
Then you will pay a minimum of about $500 for a body only, then work upto $25,000 for a show quality type buggy

You would be very lucky to find a buggy under $5000, as for getting wet......ummm....get used to it....:thumb
And as for getting stolen, perhaps buy a Rottweiler to sit in the passenger seat when you park it somewhere....

something like in my Avatar will cost you between $4,500 to $8,000.
then things start to get a little shinier or a little higher.
I payed $7,000 for mine.
But saying that, i have gotten 2 unregoed but complete and running buggies for $1,000 and $1,700.
Both have been re regoed and sold on.

nsw is funny with rego for buggy. so yo have to be carefull. the easiest way is to find one with proof of previous rego, or current rego in nsw, as
the rules today dont allow a buggy. saying that i know a few that have beeen able to get one from another state and then rego it here, lucky them but
i dont think its te norm. the only one you can build with out much hassle here is a long wheel base. of course you havnet filled in your profile, so
if you are not in nsw then blow off all i have typed.

haha forgot hte other two qs. as for getting stolen, you jsut gotta make it more difficult. ie cut out switches, and multiple ignition switches.
as for getting wet.... dont be a woose. if youre gonna drive a buggy then expect to get wet, even drowned in some instanxes. ive got no rood ,and
holes in the flor to let the water out. ive had that much rain heading to and from a show in tea gardens one time, even my full weather wets from my
bike were of little help.... but thats all in the fun of having one.

1. a lot. baja's are cheaper.
2. it's easier than a car with lockable doors. ie baja.
3. not much. doors, windows and roof work better than any soft top i've seen.
So after looking at all your questions i've come to the conclusion that you don't need a buggy, you need a baja!

The NSW Rta will accept any short wheel base buggy as long as it has held registration in another state for more than 2 years running.
That does not mean that you can go to some where like QLD that has a shit load of buggies and buy a cheap one that has been out of rego for 1 or 2
years but has previous rego.
It won't count.
It needs to be current rego for more than 2 years running.
Then it has to pass the blue slip

soft tops stop a little rain, but in heavy rain they a fairly usless.

I beg to differ about the roof. It is quite possible to get a soft top to be very efficient when it rains. You just have to think about how it needs
to work. I admit though that most soft roofs are not that great in a down pour, but the main reason for that comes down to how they are connected to
the windscreen. The other problem Manx's have is allowing lots of water through where the bonnet and tub meet. I have seen buggies with extra bits
added there to deflect water away.

I'm with Boozer - Build a Baja.
I bought a baja (Actually two) for a grand in the wait for getting a buggy. I don't think i will ever get a buggy now, well not till I'm old and
stupid anyhow.
Pros:
(1) Sand blow in - wind the window up.
(2) Rain comes down - wind window down and take photos of the buggie guys getting wet.
(3) Going camping - no need for a trailer, put it under the bonnet.
(4) Wanna take a friend - easy take three if you like plenty of room.
(5) Rego - no problem.
(6) Which state - No problem
Cons:
(1) Buggy guys get shitty your all dry.
(2) Buggy guys call you a whoose - it just envy!
(3) You need a longer run up towards hills.
(4) You can fit the kids in when you wish you couldn't (sometimes).

main advantages of a buggy over a baja bug are;
1) wieght. a buggy with its fibreglass shell is a damn sight lighter than a metal bodied baja.
2) wheelbase (not including LWB models) a shorter wheel base means better offroad ability, less bottoming out.
however i love my baja and the extra security it gives (which isnt that much when u consider early VW locks) and the roof it has when in rains. and
the fact that i can put gear on the back seat or under the hood. and theres room for more than 2 if i really want.
i think although i would love a buggie it would be impractical unless u had another larger car to drive as well.
depends on how offroad u want to go. u can make a baja very tough. have a look at "baja wes" 's baja.

get what you realy want, nothing is impossible, and there are always simple ways of making your car more difficult to steal.... but not impossible. if
they want it they will take it. geting wet is half the fun, and it ishard to beat the style of a tuff buggy, long or short wheel base,
