New Beetle... single CD front end unit? Andrew?

Is it true that NBs over there have a single CD front end unit?

If so how much are they? and do they have RDS?

$1400 for the head unit? You have got to be shitting me! That would buy a low range professional head unit, and this unit is far from being a professional quality in terms of sound. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but it's not great either.

The changer at $995 is a bargain (NOT!).

Unbelieveable.

Um, no RDS. JJJ is the only station in Australia to display RDS info, and I get nothing when I tune my radio to JJJ.

Jettaboy, the changer is an OEM version of the Panasonic CX-CP88, right? Can I just get the aforementioned unit from somewhere reasonable like Strathfield and plug it into the cable in the boot?
