which ATF ? does it matter?

Can anyone tell me what type of auto trans fluid I should use in my 79 2lt bus. Does it matter ?It sounds like there is a couple of different auto boxes around,is this the case, not sure if mine is the original or not, as the engine isn't. How do I identify it?

The two auto boxes are the 003 and 010. Unfortunately my Kombi manual just says Dexron for both, it doesn't specify the grade of Dexron. Sorry.

Gregorys, Clymer, Autobooks, Intereurope and Haynes Manuals just say Dextron.
Haynes says your VW dealer will select best grade.

IN THE OLD DAYS it was dexron which was superseded by Dexron 11 which was superseded by Dexron 111 which will be superseded by? & different companies come up with different fancy names for their ATF
just make sure it says Dexron anything, somewhere in the fine print

Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l266/Kombikim/avatar1.jpg
