Seat Mechanism

My beetle has these weird seat recliner mechanisms..
Apparently they will recline to 180 degrees!.. Never seen them before.. Were they standard in 67 (ish) beetles?

Recliners.
Usually chrome, and a bit neater, but the idea is still there.

Removed them.. Easy to take off and fix the back rest to the seat frame.. By the way.. they were chrome.. It seems a previous owner thought a can of black spray paint was the way to go.. Instruments, seats, everything!
