EJ22T in a splittie

I'm looking for ideas for my next project. A few years ago I put an alfa 33 motor into my 69 bay window but this time I'm looking for something a bit quicker.
I was thinking along the lines of a sub ej22T in a splittie. Does anyone know of this being done before? Are there clearance problems around the fuel tank or anywhere else?
I have also been reading here about using renault boxes - how well would the ratios work with one in this application?
Thanks for your help
Rob

Hi Rob, dont know about the renault gearbox, but I have done a few preliminary measurements for this engine in a splitty and i thought that the engine would possibly be too long to fit in the engine bay. Someone please feel free to put me straight.
cheers, michael.

do u mean an EJ20T or and EJ22T ? Most people are using the EJ22 or the EJ20T. The EJ22T is rare in OZ.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replys. As to which EJ engine, I'm kind of open to suggestions. Subaru's are new to me, and I don't know which engines came from which cars etc. I read somewhere that the EJ22T was better for a van 'cos of the extra torque. Is there a site anywhere which describes the diferences in the engines?

My other question is regarding the renault transaxle. I have read up a few previous posts on this, but I'm wondering how well it would mate up with a subaru, how well it would fit in spacewise, and how well the eng/gearbox would be as a package together. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Rob

the new Forresters have come out with a 2.5turbo, maybe that's the go if you want all the torque but top end power and a turbo ;)
