CD Player Installation
Im curious if anyone can lend me some directions in installing a CD player and Speakers into a 1968 12v Bug. I want to plant the speakers in rear
parcel tray and will bracket the CD to the underside of the dash. ANY advice as to what kind of wires to use to where they might need to go would be
good, especiallu starting up with the ignition.

These days there are usually two wires that need Power..
in a CD player or even late model tape players..
The Power to Play CDs usually goes to the ignition On Fuses which are the first two fuses on the left [when sitting in the drivers seat]
The Second Power wire needs power all the time for the memory & clock etc.. which would go to the last fuse on the Right Hand side.....
OR
if You would like to have the music playing with the engine Off as I do, then You would connect both wires to the last fuse on the Right Hand Side [No10].....
and You would use the On/Off switch on the CD Player....
You can buy extra wire from Dick Smiths or Jaycar or any Hi Fi Shop.... You May run into problems if You also install an AMPLIFIER ... which I
believe aren't really needed if You have a good CD Player with 30-50 watts of [rms] Power.... plus You won't need large speaker wires etc....

Yes, but You connect to the top of the Fuse box which You can get to, from under the bonnet....
Just be careful with the end one 10 as its live all the time...
Can You get someone to Crimp ends on the wires for You...?
The easiest way, is to use a 3 way male UTILUX connector
onto the fusebox connectors....
then You can just push on the extra wires.....
I'll try & find a photo for You..... [or 2]
regards
Lee

get yourself a test light, (helps source all sorts of electrical probs). if im running wires for speakers i always prefer the thicker wire with the
clear insulation to the less flexable black and red speaker wire. run the wires under the carpet/rubber along the sides ( you can run both left and
right speakers down one side and seperate them when they get to the parcel shelf, or run left down the left, and right down the right, this looks a
little neater under the parcel shelf, but is a little more stuffing around with carpet)

Although it is not specific to VWs, there can be a lot of useful info at http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums - just do a search for head unit installation and there will be heaps of info
(some relevant some not).
Worth a look perhaps?

hhhmm, just installed my new radio/cassette (yes, laugh at my $25 sound system if you must). Got the power going to it, works fine. However, when
the engine is running, especially when accelorating, the speakers crackle! me thinks its because the generator is interfering..........do you concur
doctor/s?
is there any way (cheap!!!!) to stop this?

Make sure the radio/cassette has a good earth attachment... metal strap screwed to body of car and earth wire screwed to body....
If its doing it when the Radio is being used....
the antenna/aerial has to be earthed too....
the internal wire goes to the antenna... the external braid has to be earthed... antenna/aerial may not be fitted correctly....
If all the above is OK.... then...
You can buy a small condenser/capacitor at most Car shops & stereo shops for a couple of dollars...
these just sit under a screw on the generator and the lead goes to the power connection on the generator...
best of Luck

where do you guys mount the front speakers? I've seen one with a speaker behind the right dash grill, but that only works for 1 front speaker... a 3
speaker system which sounds a bit weird
