replacement steering column

Question, can a 71 L Bug collapsable steering column re put into a 67 Beetle. If so what method is required. The 67 Beetle has the standard front beam and steering box.

not sure about the Lbug one, but I have one from another model (i think) in my buggy that is collapsable and i'm fairly sure it would fit or at least go close. the tricky bit might be the upper mount under the dash. the bottom end hooks up to the early steering box with no probs.

alternatively, just pull the collapsable shaft out and put it in the early column.
