advice in porsche gearbox...

I have an EJ20 twin turbo Subaru engine to mount on a '69 automatic chassis and would like to know if this 915 3 liter Porsche 911 gearbox would do the job?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7959629416&am...

My German is terrible, but from what I understand it's has new parts (rebuild), it' located in Germany but I live in Belgium so shipping won't be the problem.
I also plan on getting a shortened cone for the 5th gear so the box is 3cm's shorter.

All advice is highly appreciated.

Look at cal look website...see if Mike Bordelon has a contack email...He is a great guy who has a 915 in his Ghia. I will try and dig up his email..he changed jobs a while back. Tell him matt Walsh put you on to him.
From memory when I asked he said it was a little fiddly.

Hi

I think Mike fitted a 901 box which is easier. There is good stuff on Germanlook.com I plan to do this as well, have to sell my other box 1st.

I did this with my speedster and was never 100% happy with the shift, you have to shift pretty slowly for the Porsche synchros...
It was nice having a long fifth gear but I'll be going with a built type 1 gearbox this time, I'm not that harsh with my gearboxes and the bug box has a much nicer shift. Also fewer hassles with length of the gearbox, with a 915 you will normally have to cut the torsion housing, who sells a shortened nosecone for a 915?

thanks for the advices guys.
I don't think I'll be getting the 915 box in that auction then (also asked if the seller accepts paypal but he didn't since I can't fork out that much cash right now).

The 2 most important things I need from the futur trans is :
1, it should be able to handle the power and torque (might upgrade the turbo later on)
2, the length: I want to be able to close the hood completely in winter time without the engine getting in the way.

I got this from Martin Bott in Germany:

Hi,

saw on aussieveedubbers that you are looking for a supplier for a short nose cone for the 915 gearbox. My mould has just been finnished and the first cast will be made within the next two weeks. The cap is 20 mm shorter than the original and it is aslant (hope its´s the wright word) at the highest point, just beside the wheel for the reverse gear. By this you do not have to cut out as much of the cover above the nose cone.
In addition I have a new mould for a fitting traverse and I will have new axle flanges for this gearbox as well (most of them come with 110 mm flanges). I will have 100 mm flanges.

Prices are:

nose cone 280 Euro
traverse 250 Euro (incl. rubber pads)
flanges 300 Euro (pair of).

Products will be available in about 4 - 5 weeks time.

Would be nice if you could bring this info into the forum, because I won´t get access with my passwords (tried three in the meantime)

Best Regards

Martin Bott
