Not bad, some 8 spoke Empis would look nice, or I've seen Chromed Porsche 356(they look the same with the hub caps on) style wheels for 4 stud hubs, on a type 3 they look good with Wolfsburg Nipple hubcaps.

Paint the stock ones two tone, or 8 spokes, or polished cookies.
thought it was a 5 lug car and was gettin 5 spokes.

if u go the mags lower it
if u go standard still lower it but whack white walls
i would go the white walls
is it a later pan with early shell?

I feel the mags are better but only because they lower the stance of the car.

OK...
The go is...
With the lack of availability of early rear brake drums up this end of the world...
(due to the fact of beetle/manx owners using type 3 brakes...)
The decision was made that 4 lug was the best way to go.
Its still an early pan, but with 4 lug brakes... and man does it pull up!
So yes it was goin to get empi 5's but somehow they dont seem to fit anymore.
As for lowering it...
With the mags on it it sits 3inches at the lowest point. legal height is 4.
The mags are 14inch with 185/60.....
that is why it looks like its needs to be lower...
Nice illusion for the cops i think!

Got a set of cookie cutters, soon will have 6 volt stud pattern fuchs 1 set of 4.5+5.5x15 also a set of wheels that Volkspower here in melbourne make that are 4.5+5.5x15 5 spoke ( not empi ones)
but they are cool rims.
can post pics of rims on tuesday.

1500"S" Hi Compression Engine...


[size=4]I finally found some written info on the 1500"S" Early type 3s which had a High Compression Engine. As far as I know they were fully imported... They had a nice sort of a check cloth upholstery which didn't stand up to Our Sun very well and deteriated quickly if in the Sun for long periods. NOW the Engine was the "standard" size 1500cc with a compression ratio of 8.5 -1 and produced 66 BHP @ 4,800rpm .. the Octane requirement was 95 RON. Now I'm NOT sure whether these engines had twin carbies and whether they had domed pistons, the Chrome piece over the numberplate lamp had an "S" in it... These were produced until July 1965... I believe they had amber front blinkers .... and Maybe the Large Chromed Overriders.. as I presume these were a German Luxury version of the normal made in Australia 1500 sedan... I also believe that VW Australasia produced a 1500S which was the standard 1500 car with the added addition of twin Carbies... In fact it was called the "twin S"[/size]
:o:thumb 1st time I have seen it documented. I can remember seeing them about, as I was a Teenage VW enthusist , even back in those olden days.

As far as i know...
The 'S' model had wider rear drums, and the bonnet chrome was different too..
But thanks '68... i have printed out your post and stuck in the folder for futher referece.

Did they have drums or discs on the front?
Probably drums... I loved the two tone gearshift knob on those early type 3s.. not sure whether they all had them...
and the plastic handle on the hand brake ... little bits of VW luxury.... and yes the extra chrome across the front.. I don't know if they ran on Super fuel or had to add a bit of high octane....
