Q before cutting up my rear end
took of the rear fenders and want to make the valance+part of the engine bay removable for the EJ20TT engine.
Thing is, I don't know if and which parts ecactly from the sides of the engine compartment need be be cut out to have enough clearance for the quad
cam.
Anyone have measurements or pics on this please?

I dont have measurements for mine , but the link should give you an idea. I think I could have got away with a little less clearancing than I did ,
same goes with Jaks car. I guess the best way is to take your time and trim bit by bit.

Mine was the same....we all moved gearboxes foward 2 inches. Reverse the mount that bolts to the end of the forks and it is about 2 inches. When I am
removing or installingthe engine I have cam covers off then slide them up and in once the engine is secure.
I have been reading up on the ej20tt and have decided to either get rid of the twin set up totally, or if I can find someone who has done it, will run
two turbos of the same size and at the same time, not sequentially. Once the small turbo spools there is a valve that then allows the second to kick
in and subsequently a lag of about 1000rpm. Everyone I have spoken to has advised against the set up....it is also extremelt hard to get any after
market ecu's to run it...if thats what you wanted.
We will see.....I may just plug it in and see to start with as the whole subaru harness is in the car.

Has anyone got a pic of how you can get enough metal in for the bumper brackets while having everything removable?
1303: have you had a build diary anywhere? That's a great collection of swap pictures you have on samba 
When reversing the rear cradle, is there enough adjustment in the stock clutch cable or do you use one from a different model? Same goes for the
bowden tube?

thing is I'm using a combi box with a custom offroad combi trans kit. they made it so it's moved forward as far as possible without having to cut
the torsion housing.
From looking at those pics I don't really see any other option the cutting the parts for clearance and attaching the rear valance to the rear fenders
only.
As for the TT setup, I'll try to get the sequential turbo control box hooked up right and leave it stock for now, should be plenty of power. Next
concern is a strong trans (mendeola maybe when I've got the cash).

plugged in the grinder and this is the result
took out more then neede but this way the engine will be easily accessible.
Have a fg rear apron wich will be bolted to the rear fenders.

Ricola,
Unfortunately I dont have a diary as such, eventually I will load up all the photos onto the samba. The clutch cable is out of a early 60's bug, I
just went to the VW parts place and held the normal length cable up to a few others until I found a shorter length.
The Bowden Tube is the stanard length (so it still provides the right amount of friction) , but I modified the bracket that mounts on the side plate
in order to retain the correct 'bend" and also point the cable in the correct angle to the Clutch Lever. I will load the photos of that mod on the
samba aswell.

Looks like you cut about the same as I did. I had a problem with the starter hitting the turbo on the passenger side. I went with a starter from a
1984 Vanagon.

I've been looking into that aswel, thank's very much for that info junkyardoval.
I assume a "vannagon" is what is called a "bus" or "type 2" over here in Europe?
