Some Questions for turbobug56...lots!
Hi Scott,
thanks for posting all those photos, hope to see more as time goes on.
I am super interested in the whole cam and valve train setup on your engine.
From the cam profile/material, lifters, pushrods, those conical springs and retainers, and what
and how do you control those 54mm intake valves with the tension of a single spring?
All have answers I am sure, and peraps you can use this post to show us all some more photos from your collection.
Also, what tranny and ratios have you chosen for your car. Mine and others that I know here in Oz have had trouble with the 3rd and 4th
ratios getting blue with heat as the speeds go above 135mph...some have fited pump lubrication like other Euro brands.
Regards, Dave.

Hi Dave,
I am using a flat tappet cam special ground out of a Revmaster cam blank. Up until now I was using cromolly pushrods but I am going to try some dual
taper AL push rods to try and quiet the valvetrain. The rockers setup is 1.5 ratio and made by Revmaster. The springs are single Beehive which are
used in Nascars. They are setup at 190# seat and 390# nose. I setup the combo to make max power at 6500 rpms which allows these springs to work.
The retainers are special made titanium machined by you guessed it.... Revmaster.
The engine made 542 RWHP at 6400 rpms and 540 RWTQ @ 4300 rpms with 25 psi boost.
The trans is a 091 bus geared as a freeway flyer. 4.57 R&P, 3.10 - 1.81 - 1.09 - .74. 26X8 slicks. I set the shift light at 6500 and cross the
finish line at 6500 @ 150.68 mph.
The 9.79@150.68 was my first time out with the car turned up but I was having problems getting it into second. I have since had the trans rebuilt and
found 2nd syncro destroyed.
This was the incrementals:
1.51 60' I have had a 1.31 before
4.259 330' I have had a 3.902
6.406 1/8th
112.8 mph
9.79 1/4
150.68 mph

So Scott,
Do you have the cam duration and lift....and lobe center.
I would also be interested in some head flow figures if you have them, since I run the same valve size and bore, and found I went
backwards at first with shrouding.
What combo ran the faster short times?
I have found clutch disc weight plays a big part in synchro life, so went to 180mm discs...the result was good!
Regards DB.

I do have the cam specs. It is a special combo that I am experimenting with. I prefer not to share that info at this time.... sorry.
The heads were ported and polished by Dean Lowry. This engine was his last project before passing. In N/A form it made 290hp with 11:1 compression.
I did not get a chance to flow them.
The same combo ran the faster short times. The weekend before Vegas I took the car to Palmdale to try and knock out my licensing passes. I was
having boost controler problems but 2nd was working good, hence the much better short times. The 1.31 60' had the 3.90 330' and 6.36@96 1/8 with
15 psi boost. The car started moving around a lot before the 1/8 so I lifted. From that point on I could not get it into second anymore. I also
tried licensing the Friday night in Vegas, where I missed 2nd 5 of 6 times and then on Sunday I missed 2nd in all of the qualifying passes. For
eliminations I just slowed the shift waaaaay down. I also bypassed the electronic controller and went back to the basic dial-a-boost.
My cluch setup is definetly heavy. The trans was 3 years old with 100+ passes on it. It was time for a rebuild.
