jim
i ve just installed a 'black box' unit to work with my aftermarket sony head unit.
i didnt want to run the stereo off the headphone output of the ipod cos the quality of sound was going to be compromised
other benefits are charging oof the ipod while connected and controlling from the head unit/remote/steering wheel (depending on what car/stereo you
have)
installation was a breeze, was costly though. i had to import from us and airfreight.
do a google on how to install ipod into car, which i m sure you have already done.
i got mine from mp3yourcar.com (or something similar)
installation is:
-connect 3 cords (2 rcas, 1 controller input) to head unit
-connect the other end of the above to 'black box'
-connect black to ipod
-secure black box
all i got to do know is figure out how to operate the thing

Thanks for your help!

Bumping up an old thread.
There is now an amp made from blaupunkt (spelling) that has a headphone jack in it. You will just need a headphone/headphone to connect the ipod to
the amp... this means no headunit needed. The RRP on the 4 channel amp is $299
Sounds to me that headunits could become things of the past if ipods and mp3 players keep progressing the way they are, all they need to do is pick up
radio frequencies.
