I’m building a car to do the rerun of the 56 Ampol trial. So I’m using a 56 bug with a 1500cc motor, this is to fit into the under 1500 class.
Not sure how much power it will put out but it’s a aluminium case with Pobjoy crank, cam and sump, 40 DCN weber, custom ignition, TP heads think 37
and 35 s/s valves and seriously lightened pistons. The motor has more power then my old hotted up 1600 and it revs really well. 1500 gearbox and
billet four wheel disc. I will probably end up using a pair of adjustable shocks on the rear but don’t as for the rest still working on it.

i dont think you will need much more apart from some sump guards that sorta thing. i use konis on my car. its really more of a cruise rather than a
race isnt it?

Your right it will have cruise sections in it but it’s not in me to play follow the leader. I am building the car to be used in competition at a
club level, eg. Sprints, Hill climbs, Motakhana’s and the like. I’m not building a show car it will be built for action. The sump guard is a
good idea jot any pic’s of one? What konis do you run? I’ve grabbed a set of adjustable off one of the FV we have but don’t really want to use
them in case I damage them. Any Idea’s on sway bars or camber comps? What size tyre do you run and what make?

About tyres I’m not permitted to run rally tyres (mores the pity) Am looking at Pirelli Dragons in 195/65/R15 front and rear. My question is are
these two big for the front of my car? Just afraid they will not bite in on grass or dirt. Also how hard or soft do you run your suspension, any idea
on what your corner weight might be?

I am more into autocross and khana cross, but also dabble in hillcimbs, sprints etc. Though i do run a super, so not much teh same. I found i needed
slightly wider rear tires 205, as used the wider rears to help stop oversteer at speed, and then suspension setup to stop understeer at low speed. I
run koni sports, and fidn they are pretty good, with stiffer front springs ok for smooth stuff, but on a proper rally sprint/rally ti would be to
stiff. I know if a rally beetle being built for qrc (well is log booked already) i will go and check it out and see if i can get some ideas. unless he
sees this thread.....

Hi blokes, i've just built and logbooked a 70 swingaxle rallycar in brisbane. To answer your question, not a lot!!!!YES BIX i saw the thread......your
round oz event will be harder than u think! concentrate on COLD oil, removing lots of exhaust, and the one everyone forgets, supply LOTS of COLD
fuel.engine specification will ultimatley be determined by the supplementy regs for the event and which classes u can run under,PRC HISTORIC,CLASSIC
etc.running other events after may only require minor mods to build a JET!! i'm runnig kybs at the front, modified hyundai terracan fronts at the
rear,1600 std barrels, std rods, 69 crank,39/35 valves on heavily ported heads, twin 44s,engle 120,light flywheel. std ratios with home made phantom
grip lsd,(WORKS GREAT!!!)oil cooler over gearbox with thermo fan,std brakes(well u want to go fast don't u!)i does 100mph indicated with 14in delta
mags and revs to 5800 before valve bounce on std valve springs pulling hard all the way. posting pics here is a pain contact me on
david.scharf@bigpond.com.au for some pics ,i'll email. running kcf short course rally end of feburary at jimna in brisbane. i'll help anyone
interested in running more beetles in ralllies.
