I need some help on pedal assembly and all the conducts in the tunnel

See pics below. The way the clutch cable & accelerator cable shafts stick out of the left side of the tunnel doesn't make sense to me. Are
they both supposed to be outside the tunnel? How would the two cables go through the tunnel through the small hole? What am I doing wrong?

Raf Here are some links to some high res pics of the passenger side.
I also took a very amateur vid of the linkage action.
My accelerator rod has a hump in it where it goes over the handbrake cable tube!
