Primer/Surfacer/Putty gun tips.....
All,
Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb of sorts for tip sizes for the products? I have a "finishing" gun (can't remember the tip size but it
does a great job) and was wondering whether I should pick up a second gun for spraying primer/surfacer. And is a putty gun different again?
The plan is to practice, practice, practice on spare panels I have so I'll be stripping and re-coating a few times trying out about 3 different
colours of base/clear topcoats.

primer being a higher build product requires a larger fluid tip size, normally 1.8mm, where as a top coat gun would be 1.5.
i have a devilbiss GTi topcoat gun, and use an old SATAjet as a primer gun, i would NEVER put primer in my topcoat gun.

polyester /putty gun requires a 2.5 mm gravity feed gun, well thats what i used
gravity wont get you high

yeah polyester guns tips are huge, cos the shit is SOOOOO thick and
smells awesome.. but dont tell workcover i know that

Personally I have never used and never finish my panel work to require to use polyester filler. I belive if there is nothing to shrink back, it cant
shrink back. Try to finish to at least 180 grit paper with your filler and you will have a great finish that will last a long time.
Regular primer filler on a 180 grit finish will work quite well through a 2.0 tip gun.
