ej22 wiring help needed.


Hey everone, im fitting a subaru ej22 into my 85 caravelle GL manual and need someone to cut down the subaru loom. I can install it, i just need someone to cut it down to suit my van. I want it cut down ready to install including a VSS and what ever else is needed to make it run. I would prefer some one in the Sydney area, but dont mind if i have to send the loom interstate to get it done.

How is the conversion going in general? You doing it yourself? I'm interested as i've wanted to do this (well ej25) for a long time now.

Thanks for those numbers everyone. I was looking at my loom today and have decided i might have a go at cutting it down my self. I have two so if i stuff one i will send the other one to someone who knows what they are doing. Any usefull sites i should take a look at? Any sites out there with free wiring diagrams?
kombi kountry.. Im doing it all my self. The only part i was going to get done was the wiring, but i might give it ago my self. At the moment im colecting everything i need so i can take the van off the road over christmas and do it. Im cleaning up the ej22 at the moment and fitting all new belts, seals and a water pump. Im doing my own short sump and reversed coolent manifold. I will also be making my own cross member. Im using a rjes bell housing from the uk... http://www.rjes.com/  its a very nice product and looks very "factory" compared to a addaptor plate.

Ahhh Alex, nooooooooooooo I may need that other wiring loom in the future! I very much recommend a guy called Al who used to work at Sunspares in QLD. Did my harness for the EJ20T, quality work and well priced. Al said he has been trying to log onto the site lately with no success.........................Al you on yet.

I can contact him if you like and I am sure he is well priced against others.

I called custom off-road as i need this done myself. They do it for $440 and rekon you get it back with 10 wires and instructions on where they go. It makes life easier but is that a fair price? Spose sparky work be exy too. Anyone know any cheaper options?

I've just got a wiring loom done by COR and reckon that it is the way to go, i've done my own loom on a piazza engine going into a gemini (what a headache) and reckon the money is well spent

I got the COR loom, and I must admit the size of a cutdown loom is very manageable.

The original loom was huge and I had no idea what to do whatsoever The modified loom had just the 10 marked wires, and they were very straightforward.

Off the top of my head simple things like

main power
ignition power
earth
temp sender
thermo fan relay wire
oil warning light
tacho
ECU warning light
VSS signal
Aircon

You just have to fit a tacho, temp guage, ECU warning light into your dash, and thermo fans and air cond if you want. The others are part of your VW already.

Anyway if I could do it being very non-electrical minded, then it is right up there for simplicity. I did not use any factory wiring diagrams to do it either.

I might be stating the obvious. Try the loom first! Did you remove it yourself? ie you know the stereo wires, interior lights, wipers, washers etc

I ended up with approx 2 carrier bags worth of chopped wires.

You'll not go wrong with Rich's bell housing - lovely bit of kit. I'm running one, 2l box, EJ20, 78 bay.

cutting down the ej22 loom is not that hard just do one wire at a time and label everything , its a hell of a lot easier than doing a ej20t with abs aircon ,auto and cruise control.
