So begins the next round of upgrades... 2332 turbo revised...

Well i've started on the next round of changes to my bug. After having the 2332 turbo engine in the car for the while and trying diferent combinations to address various issues with cooling etc I think i've finally got things sorted and have begun the next round of upgrades.

The main things I want to address with this next build up are:

1. cooling changes... changing to a C&R water to oil heat exchanger to keep oil temps really consistant. There is the added benefit that I can do away with one electric cooling pump too, and the water cooled turbo bearing housings will help bring the oil up to temp faster as well. I still run a pair of front mounted radiators with 7" thermo fans on them to cool the coolant down. The pumps and fans are controlled by my engine management.

2. turbo changes... upgrading to twin GT1752's (most likely, though twin GT15s or GT20's are being considered), rated at 220hp each. They will be high mounted forward of the firewall behind the back seat. A new bolt in firewall section will be being fabricated too.

3. complete engine bay re-wire... as i've done that many alterations it was beginning to look a little messy... My ecu and ignition system will be moutned on the new firewall section under the rear window. I am doing away with the distributor as well, and switching to a coil on plug arrangement with either twin or 4 coils. The distributor remains with a crank angle sensor installed in it, and a fancy machined alloy cap sits over that to keep the dust out.

4. A CB performance alloy engine block with 10mm chromoly head studs.. more strength.. more boost!

5. Oil system change... got a shiny new revmaster aviation 38mm full flow oil pump with a relief valve pump cover. Recommended as being the best wet sump pump available for hot street and drag turbo engines by the top builders on shoptalkforums.com. With the extra oiling requirements of the twin turbo's and luba lifters the pump will help there also.

6. cam change... for two reasons.. one was that it was running out of steam past 5500 rpm, which was about 1000 rpm shy of where I wanted to rev the engine too. Also, much to my dismay i've discovered my scat lifters are eating my engal TCS10 camshaft... So i've ordered a new Webcam 86B and scat luba-lifters from aircooled.net. They are getting the fully weld, re-grind, re-surface treatment too, so I won't have to worry about it going flat ever again. I'm up for some pauter rocker gear too in the 1.4 ratio area to get a 0.530" lift at the valve... still got to source those...

7. Pushrod tubes! My fancy jaycee pushrods are giving me the shits with how they leak oil all the time. I've replaced o-rings in them twice now and am sick of pulling the turbo header off to get access to them. Changing to a set of bugpack windage stainless steel ones instead. The oldest designs are hopefully the best!

So the engine came out of the car and was stripped down tonight in preporation for the alterations. Thats when I discovered this nice camshaft problem. Ah well...

New parts should start arriving inside the next week with any luck, so i'll be posting the build up as this happens...

Cheers,

Look forward to seeing the mods Ian.

Is the Web Cam a turbo one?(wide lobe centre)

My fav turbo cam is a V26 engle on wide lobe centres...just like Turbo Bob uses.

I agree with you regards to the pushrod tubes.
I like original Volksy ones when I can, or the wider mouth CB style
ones if ratio rockers are used.

Especially looking forward to you ignition system.

Yes it is a web cam. I'm getting it and the lifters from aircooled.net. Both the cam and lifters are getting the grind down, weld up and re-surface treatment.

The camshaft I've ordered is a webcam 86B with 112 lobe centers. 272 intake duration at 0.050", 300 total advance. I've also ordered a set of 1.3:1 pauter billet ratio rockers to make for aboout 0.500" lift at the valve. Call it taking the sledgehammer approach to never having valve train issues again. Hope Hope ! :D.... Aircooled.net offer a 100% gurantee to replace the cam, lifters, pump and bearings if the cam starts to go flat again after these mods are done to the cam and lifters etc.

Tis a shame that LN Engineering don't sell the cermaic lifters anymore, especially since the engine block i've orderd is compatible with them now... I hadn't heard of Udo's too steel lifters before... Ah well. one for next time.

I nearly went crazy and ordered some squishy pistons too, but then I would have wanted to change the rod to alter the ratio, and then the crank to flanged... where does it stop! So i've opted to just re-assemble what i've got and just DRIVE IT!

I've scored a pair of Greddy TDO4H turbo's too, which were a 400hp kit for a 300ZX nissan. Not sure if i'll use them now though as they are a plain bearing non water cooled turbo. I'm thinking a GT20 or custom built turbo thats built on the GT20 cartridge. Fortunatly we have one of australia's biggest turbo guru's locally here.... Ray Hall turbocharging...

So now its just waiting for the parts to arrive... won't be long now.

I dont think A.C.Net still have there cam guarantee, too many claims too much BS.I got my ceramic lifters direct from Schubecks in Nevada delivered to my front door $752 aud.Good luck on whatever you decide but as of now only Udos and Schubecks are virtually problem free, the rest are a gamble.:o
