What gearbox have you got, as i suspect that you will have a kombi box with a 2 litre input shaft and a 1600 bellhousing .
As i have started to say most people don't realise that a 2 litre kombi input shaft and belhousing is approx 25mm longer than a 1600 kombi input shaft and bellhousing so as you can see if you have a mismatch of a 2litre shaft and a 1600 bellhousing the shaft will bottom out before the bellhousing and adapter meet but if everything was ok before and you have not touched the box, bellhousing, etc then my next check would be the input bearing in the back of the subi crank possibly being to small for the input shaft

1600 kombi box, 1600 bell housing, The "clutch aligning tool" went all the way in.....

I had it sitting rite then pulled it out again, to put the bottom bolts in, now it wont fit
