Id have to agree about the hammertone being the "last thing in the shed" - you would get that impression. I think airbrushing is a much more valid option. I don't think I'd have the patience to stencil a whole car - I probably could but would bork at bushing it through dense scrub next time I'm trail blazing or dune blasting. I'd have to do a Wes and wait for everyone to come back. Don't wanna miss out on the fun trips offroad.

I like the idea of using different sheens for effect and will probably experiment with that in the future. Will have to steal the airbrush and have a play with that before I attempt anything as adventurious as your describing, rust / legs / tyres.

If you were to rip up pieces of newspaper into small bits IE matchbox size and then wet them and stick them on the car mop up any excess with a rag or sponge then spray your light effects before they dry completely and fall off {do it under cover}
I think that would work fine, I might even do it to my splitty for shits and giggles yeah baby.

Sounds excellent Herb. I'd try it on an old panel first an see. Sound like a do able idea. Just had my neighbour over for conversation after dinner and suggested hi gloss black with a couple of coats of clear like the pic above for the Dog-O-War and couldn't convince him. He thinks Gloss yellow but I reckon it's too common on off road VW's.

I'm now thinking of going around the panel shops and having a look at mistints. Heaps cheap and only going to be thrown anyhow. Might be a good way to choose a cool colour.

I love that blue / purple on the chop top above. No good for a Baja. I think that stuff is about a grand a litre of somthing extortive like that.

There are some great ideas coming out here. Love the cracked pavement idea but doubt I could endure the heat within.

I reckon your car has heavy leanings to the Hot rod world. Because of this i reckon you should go with a hot rod paint scheme.

Love the black and white rod with the flames. Sweet as.

Or Purple metallic with ghosted flames. That would definetely be nice.

How good are you with an airbrush ? Or how good is your chosen painter ?

I think the VWRX should go the hot rod black with just yellow flames and the dog of war should go the clasic zebra stripes.

That would be so cool.:thumb

Paint.

A quick question..

How are you going to get the body straight to accept the paint?

Are you going to use fibreglass to smooth the bumpy bits?

There will be much work to keep this together.

Best of luck.

rhrnldi dude,
The only real bumps i can see is where the chrome strips on the doors used to go, but that might just be the angle.
otherwise it looks like one staight motofok to me.

I reckon gloss black with some sort of pearl or ghost flames would look sooperb.
Wicked.
