Country Buggy round up '2007'

After talking to a few mate's we we're thinking, wouldn't it be great If we could get as many CBs as we can in the one place,

maybe DOVW could set aside a spot for it, I know the 3 CB owners in our club are deffinately keen.

What does everyone think?

Hey Rhett, give us an idea of how many might be coming guys. I can think of 4 off the top of my head.

Setting aside a CB area wont be a prob. Did you want CB's judged as a separate category in the Show & Shine???

we've got a deffinate 2 at this end, setting aside a spot would be great! And a separate class would be awesome!!

Thanks Dean.

A good idea

I think its a good idea,
Nothing like turning up to a show and paying to get in and they don't even have a class to enter you in.

It's the only all Australian built VW and its left out.

Perhaps this is why no one knows what they are? LOL

With a few turning up to the last few shows it could be a class now.:thumb

I've just joined this forum so I'm just writing to say hi.

I live in Rockhampton, Qld and I'm just about to purchase a country buggy so I'm hoping by joining this list I might be able to get information off you guys...if you don't mind. I should be picking the car up in a couple of weeks, and if you would like to see photo's let me know. The car has been stored in a shed for a few years and from what I could tell it looks in very good condition, but it will be needing a new softtop because it's missing. Are parts easily available for these cars. Anyway once I've got the car I'd be interested in joining your roundup.

Anyway I've probably rattled on enough so if you'd like further info on the car let me know.

parts are VERY difficult to get as they were only around 800 made and only 100 remain so one has to 'die' to supply most body parts

The colour is a darkish green. I lifted the bonnet and the engine cover and the paint looked in very good condition, so unless it's been stripped and repainted (which I doubt has been the case) I guess it could be the original colour.

It was registered up to a couple of years ago, but not now. the owner says it shouldn't take much to get it registered again. He wants $4000 for it. How does that price sound for a car like this. If I can work out how to attach pictures I'll paste some in.

Price ??

Paul,

The price is dependant upon how original it is - email me the photos and I will put them up for you..

pziser1@bigpond.net.au

If it is original, with steering wheel, seats, CB front end, reduction hubs on the rear, not cut about and minimal rust then it probably would be worth it. I have had a few of them over the years and there are some ones to stay away from- just because they are rare doesnt automatically mean you should pay the earth for one.

If in doubt just keep asking questions I am sure someone on here will be able to help..

Do you live in Rocky - there used to be a bloke with a lot of dubs in Gracemere, just in behind the shops off the main street..

Cheers

Peter

Pauls buggy

Here is a photo of Pauls buggy - more photos to come when he actually gets it home and out from the shed it has been stored in. Looks in pretty good nic, with original steering wheel and doesnt appear to have been chopped about or neglected.

Fellas,

I had a replacement soft-top made for my Buggy in Toowoomba by Greg Power Canvas. The company did an excellent job and to use their newly-developed expertise on other Buggys (to recoop their set-up costs). They produced the top, fixed and opening sides for me. We had a rough top that was borrowed from Bill Moore but did introduce a couple of up-dates e.g. weather flaps for the zips, extra hold-down clips but otherwise it is as close a copy as possible.
The down-side is that Greg Power want the vehicle to make the top - we discovered that my car wasn't exactly square. This made the top stretching evenly a little difficult.

Find photos here http://www.clubaudiqld.org/gallery.html and scroll down.

Regards

Rob

Most of Country Buggies will be out of square , the solution would be to make the top precise and make adjustments to stretch it correctly on the car body.
Could you elaborate on costing? Canvas job looks perfect.

cb john,

Cost is about $1,200.00 for roof and fixed and opening sides. The material is marine-grade tonneau material - the stuff is used on boat canopies. My car was about 25mm out of square - not bad I guess(?)

I also included small velcro straps to hold the roof to the first roof bow.

Hi all,

I'm going to be needing a new soft top as well (there isn't one with this car) so I wonder if there are a few orders whether we might get a discount.

Hi all,

Sorry I've been a bit slack, I haven't posted any pictures of the car up yet, but hopefully this weekend I can get some clear skies and get the car out. I've been busy checking it over and cleaning the whole car up. It had been sitting in a garage for around 5 years so you can imagine the buildup of dust and crap, and you should see the size of some of the "daddy long legs" I've had to get out of there (I don't know who was the more frightened. The spider or me).

But it's starting to look ok. The only rust I can find is a small hole in the floor around the size of a 20c piece. And apart from a little bit of surface rust, it is rust free. Engine runs great, and with the car being unlicenced, I've only had a chance to run it around the back yard so I cant' really tell what it's going to drive like. The paint job won't win any shows, but at this stage I just want to get it licenced and drive it around. Then one day I'll strip it down and restore it.

But overall I think it's been a pretty good buy.

Anyway, hopefully this weekend I'll get the shots for you.

See you

Paul

Grey 57,
Any clue about how many CB's might show for your Day of the VW event???
Anyone know what the record for the most CB's at a single event in Oz might be???
What will the trophy look like? Pics?

It would seem you Down Under CB mates might have a real happening in the works here. :thumb

I've only ever seen two country buggies at the one time

one like new and one in very poor condition...

Good to see another one on the road..

Main problem was the body being too taut [not flexible]
so the body cracked in many places..
maybe these cracks were welded up without aligning the body.. so they are out of alignment..
