Reverse pops out??

OK sorry in advance if this prob has been answered already elsewhere in this forum.

I have a manx (maybe not a qualifying vw from other comments in this forum but here goes anyway ;) :D)

It has a high ratio gearbox that I was told was from a combie when I bought it. I am still very much a newbie in the VW scene so I don't know how else to describe the box.

Anyway it just started to pop out of reverse anytime its under pressure. ie carefully riding clutch on level ground is OK, but try reversing normally and it pops out.

No bugger up here (groote eylandt)knows about VW's so I need some advice ... is it definitly gearbox prob as opposed to some adjustment in linkages? Is it part of bigger prob thats ganna affect forward gears??

cheers

Check this site out, particularly the bit that says everytime it jumps out of reverse it's doing damage. :o :o :o

thanks

that link paints a clear picture albeit a bad one

I'm guessing that the bits of metal worn off the reverse sliding gears are not going to be very helpful to the other gears and bearing in the box. So I guess I'm ganna learn how to pull apart a VW gearbox!!
