squeaking

ok i'm lost in what's wrong.
when i drive, my left rear wheel squeaks. not sure what's causing it but wen we tightened the nut on the end of the axel, it stopped for few hundred meters then started again. could it be bearings? is it in the axel itself? when going around a right bend it stops.

Does it stop when you apply the hand brake? Does it squeak when you reverse??

My old beetle's right back wheel started doing this once. Squeek, squeek, squeek...It would stop when I put the brakes on, then start again when I released them. But it didn't squeak going backwards.

I took the drum off and checked the brakes - nothing unusual at all. Cleaned the shoes and drum and put it back together - still did it.

In the end I took the drum off again, reversed the two shoes and put it back together. That fixed it.
